A lot of people don't realize that Michael Nesmith wrote Different Drum for Linda Ronstadt and The Stone Pony Band. His mother invented White out. He was one of the first to work with video's with his video "Elephant Parts". A VERY accomplished musician before The Monkees.

I purchased this CD for the song "Joanne." I've listened to the other tracks and didn't find anything I liked except maybe one or two other songs. I like country music but this CD is just not my bag. The track "Joanne" was hard to find, so this CD would have to do.

This greatest hits album of Michael Nesmith and the First National Band exceeded my expectations. I was familiar with, and liked, the hit songs 'Joanne' and "Silver Moon', especially the former. What surprised and impressed me was the quality and variety of the remaining 14 songs. Mike's voice is strong and clear, the lyrics are poetic, and the Band;s playing is tight. Even if you are not a hard core 'country' fan (which I'm not), this is a strong collection of songs and an enjoyable listen. Mike wrote a dozen of the 16 songs and produced five of them. He always was the most musically adept and gifted of the Monkees.
