162-0 imagines a season of zero losses by recapping games from the storied history of the Philadelphia Phillies. The book is short, but an enjoyable read that will give a good overview of famous teams, games and significant players who wore the red pinstripes. Although the Phils possess the unfortunate record of being the first professional sports team anywhere to record 10,000 losses (mostly due to the fact they are one of the oldest sports franchises, dating back to 1883), there are a lot of gems and highlights for a team that has played close to 20,000 games.
The book is organized by month with a final chapter of postseason play. Each game summary is generally a page to a page and a half. The final sentences of each summary tie the game into the larger season or exceptional year of one of the players so the game is placed in context for the reader. Boxes of interesting factoids are placed throughout the book.
It is a quick read and the type of book that can be picked up and read in short sessions. All in all, this is will be enjoyable for a Phillies fan and will serve to tie today's followers to the storied past of one of America's noteworthy baseball clubs.
Paul should continue writing his style is enjoyable to read.
