Castor oil is an age old beauty treatment that has been largely replaced over time by more modern, chemical laden beauty products with a lot more ingredients that are far from organic. Essential Living’s Organic, Hexane Free castor oil is Unrefined and cold-pressed. This means it is not only packed with antioxidants, but also retains all its vitamins and nutrients in the process.
Castor Oil for Hair Care:
Castor oil is well known as an effective tool in helping to prevent, and remedy hair loss. Packed with antibacterial and anti fungal properties, castor oil naturally combats the root causes of hair loss - follliculitus, dandruff and scalp infections.
Further, natural, organic castor oil is packed with Ricinoleic acid which helps to increase circulation to the scalp and improve hair growth. Ricinoleic acid is also said to help balance scalp pH, which is critical in replenishing the scalp’s natural oils and undoing damage from harsh chemical hair products (and even damage from no-poo, due to over alkalinity).
Applying Castor Oil to Hair and Scalp:
Application: Put 1 to 2 tablespoons of castor oil in your palm and work it through your hair from the roots to the tips, massaging well. Castor oil has a thicker density, which can make it difficult to wash it out. Start with a small amount, and add more as you go if necessary. Leave the oil in for a minimum of 15-20 minutes.
Removal: Due to its dense consistency, it can be difficult to wash off castor oil and you may need to shampoo multiple times to remove the oil. To reduce the amount of washing required, condition your hair with a commercial conditioner 30 minutes before you take a shower. The oil should come off easily.
Continued Care: After washing and rinsing, towel dry it and avoid using any heat styling tools immediatley after drying.
Castor Oil for Eyelash Growth and Health:
As opposed to the standard, chemical laden eyelash growth products offered at most makeup counters, castor oil is a natural ingredient, that is easily the most effective home remedy for naturally gorgeous lashes.
Packed with nutrients that are essential to healthy lashes, castor oil is thick proteins, minerals, fatty acids (such as oleic, linoleic, stearic, and palmitic ricinoleic acids) in addition to its natural antifungal and antibacterial properties.
Castor oil is particularly thick with vitamin E, which works as an antioxidant and helps to repair and build tissue. It also repairs the damage to your hair follicles, and healthy follicles encourage hair growth.
Clean: Start by cleaning your face and eyes with water. Carefully remove any traces of makeup, especially around the eyes.
Dip: Dip an eyeliner brush into your castor oil, and then carefully apply to the eyelashes. Make sure to use a natural *cold pressed* castor oil that is free from hexane and other additives.
Sleep: It is typically best to apply castor oil to the lashes before bedtime, so that the oil has plenty of time to soak in and be absorbed by the lashes. The following morning, use your favorite (preferably natural!) makeup remover to remove the oil from your lashes.
