i have long been interested in American pieced quilts as part of my own Appalachian heritage. this volume fills in a connection wit the British origins by offering parallels and contrasts through careful study of a remarkable surviving 18th century "elder".

Fabulous book. They really did a terrific job of descibing this quilt with all the techniques to make it. Every block is detailed. Most blocks would make other projects too - smaller baby quilts, lab robes, tote bags, candle mats, even Christmas ornaments, etc. If you are interested in making an antique inspired quilt - you should really consider this one. I will try to find time to make it but with different colors. The dull colors shown are just not my "cuppa" tea but it would be drop dead gorgeous in modern colors too.

After doing a Dear Jane quilt many years ago I was happy to find this book recently on AMazon. The pictures are clear and the quilt is very unusual. I hope to make one in the future. The book also makes for a very interesting read.

Wonderful book for the quilt lover. I was amazed at all the different patterns and colors in a quilt made in 1718. Many people went to a great deal of effort to re-create this quilt as authentically as possible. Patterns are included in case you are inspired to make one or all of the blocks. An awesome read.
