Her transformation launches at “Ground Zero,” 7 months pregnant with 2 year old daughter and a loving husband who mysteriously disappears for days. He sends a postcard telling her he will be home soon. Instead of being home, he is found dead.
In gritty detail using the structure of her 8 Step Plan of Grief Recovery, she invited me to follow her journey of how she survived, what she did, who and what helped her, and what she is like now. In her words, “I needed tools to empower my life and the lives of our children, with truth.” She does accomplish that goal of empowerment in this book, not just for herself, but for all who have lost loved ones. She provides readers with a window into her pain, but that window quickly becomes a mirror.
She writes with great compassion for grieving people, a compassion born from her own suffering in crawling through the desert of grief. It is an empowering compassion that calls the suffering to join her, in the desert, and find the strength, grace, and mercy to live again.
Therefore, this is much more than a “Pay it Forward” book. It is, again in her words, “Transforming the random swirling morass of grief into a charitable journey.” As a mental health clinician, I will not hesitate to recommend this book to my grieving clients. As a church pastor, this book will be given to the grieving. Her program of recovery addresses the multi-dimensions of grief: grief and the body, the mind, the heart, the spirit, and relationships. My hope is that eventually, it will also be found in physician offices as an important resource of healing for the suffering. 180 Your Life from Tragedy to Triumph: A Woman's Grief GuideRonald H Wean, M.Div., M.Ed., LPCC, CEAP, SAP
