I have two of these boxes for widescreen TVs in different houses. They both usually sync right up to cable boxes, blue ray players etc but usually won't sync to a professional video recorder with HDMI output without the connect/disconnect cycle, or power cycle. Sometimes just starting and stopping playback will do it. In cases like this one doesn't know which manufacturer to point the finger at. The recorder people are looking at firmware to make their recorder sync to more HDMI sinks. The manufacturer of this little box could, presumably, modify his firmware to be more robust.
In any regard, I have two of these handy audio extractors, and both have been working like champs for weeks at this point with one of them putting out analog audio out from our new Yamaha receiver 24/7.
Another great advantage of these is that, while I had a fairly good sound throughout the home, there were two zones where I could hear a small 60hz hum on the stereo. This will have been from an unavoidable run along side some electrical wire. By transmitting the sound through the digital form, that hum is gone.
These are great plug and play units. I rank them very high, and almost perfect given all of the headaches I have had with HDMI over the years.
Although it does its job, the d/a converter is apparently of less than stellar quality. It does not produce top-level sound quality when I input music from my cable box, or other well-recorded sound tracks,
But it does what I needed. Reliably, so far.
