About the Author

As an author and speaker, Lisa has a fresh voice in the genre of women’s Christian fiction. Because she did not grow up in the church or as an active believer, Lisa’s journey to her current life of faith was one filled with bumps and bruises, a fact that allows her genuine empathy toward broken believers and the lost. More in the line of secular fiction, her characters are in process. Deeply flawed, they are individuals most readers can identify with. Lisa doesn’t shy away from the tough subjects but rather creatively explores elements of the human condition and all the junk that comes along with life and faith. Lisa’s other titles, Unmending the Veil, Deceiver, and Beyond 4/20 are available on Amazon and Kindle or at lisaheatonbooks.com.

This is a difficult review to write, truth be told. I enjoyed the story and the characters a great deal but I can't say that I would suggest this book. There are too many mentions of sex and too much touching in my opinion. The leading lady is a Christian and stands by her beliefs in the face of temptation and that is something I love but the ending went into the bedroom. That is the best way I guess I can say it, so that ruined it for me. There are many Christian romance books out there that don't do that and they lose nothing by staying clean. A good story is a good story and this one could have been great if the author would have stayed well away from that line that goes into the physical. I am a born again Christian and I try to stay away from books, movies and anything that will put images or words in my thoughts that do not need to be there and that I would feel uncomfortable knowing the Lord is hearing, so I am very careful with what I read and suggest to others. This author has a lot of talent and I would love it if someday she wrote something I can read without worry. Anyway this is my honest opinion.
Sincerely, Kaysie.S

This is the BEST romance novel I have read in a long, long time, maybe ever! I could not put it down. Like another reader, I was up until the early hours "having" to finish it! Gripped from the start it was SO fresh and yes, the whole story was steeped in Christianity and realism.

John Keller (48), owner/creator of Keller Industries and a multimillionaire almost billionaire, is fed up with being pursued by women at business gatherings which although he doesn't want to attend, has to. His wife, Tracey, died of cancer 10 years ago.

Chelsea Whittaker (23), is in her last year of a 6 year degree. When her grandfather died 3 months ago, her funding was cut off. She doesn't want to get into debt over her last year of college.

Both John and Chelsea sign up on an 'escort' site; John looking for an escort for the business meeting, Chelsea looking for a way to pay her tuition. Chelsea's profile is the only one that John considers and she is interviewed twice by his staff before even meeting John. Even when she meets John, she has no idea who he is, expecting some "old" man to be her employer. Right from the beginning. Chelsea makes it very clear that sex is not an option. Chelsea is a Christian with very high morals and tells hims that she is waiting until she is married before being "with" someone. John tells Chelsea, "Some man will get a great treasure when he marries you." "In the world he knew, there was no one who made such a commitment. He certainly never did." John, who was brought up in a Christian home and made a commitment at a young age, is not walking with the Lord at this time but tells Chelsea that she will be safe with him. He is not interested in a sexual relationship and also has no intention of marrying again.

Pros: A heartachingly good love story unfolds between an uncoventional couple that you'll want to witness.
Cons: It took a while to get into the story and at times seemed too wordy

Overall, this is a truly touching story that pulled me in and engaged my heart.

Although the ending was predictable, the book was very well written and the story was engaging. Characters were well developed. Initially, I was surprised that the book was as long as it was considering that I knew how it would probably end however I enjoyed the characters so much that I found that I was glad that it continued because I did not want it to end.

Some other reviewers have noted that the story line is unrealistic -- that is true but this is also true of many other fiction books. Personally, I read fiction when I want an escape so unrealistic is okay for me. For realism, try a biography.

One other reviewer was disappointed because of too many mentions of sex. I consider myself to be a strong, evangelical Christian and I did not find this to be the case so I guess this is a matter of perspective.

Anyone that ever has had a broken heart can identify with this story but also may be able to come into a understanding of their own relationship and the reasons life happens to us and how we effect life.

What a wonderful book! It had everything you want in a love story without a lot of filler material that involved the couple having sex. This was a story of how a couple came together out of convenience, fell in love, and then endured the pain of separation.

Your heart goes out to Chelsea and John as you begin to read their individual pasts and how they had been hurt by the ones they loved and who they thought loved them. Each took a separate path to begin healing and those paths brought them to each other. Chelsea's path was school in LA and her constant faith. John's path was building his business, in LA as well, but without the faith he had experienced in his home as a young boy. "On 4/19" you understand their agreement of no relationship outside of their contract and no expectations in one year when the contract ended--"On 4/19".

Be prepared to use a few tissues along the way. Your heart will break for each of them as you experience their heartbreak. You may also find yourself looking inside your own soul as Chelsea continues to trust in God and John begins his journey back to God and hopefully to Chelsea.
