John Keller (48), owner/creator of Keller Industries and a multimillionaire almost billionaire, is fed up with being pursued by women at business gatherings which although he doesn't want to attend, has to. His wife, Tracey, died of cancer 10 years ago.
Chelsea Whittaker (23), is in her last year of a 6 year degree. When her grandfather died 3 months ago, her funding was cut off. She doesn't want to get into debt over her last year of college.
Both John and Chelsea sign up on an 'escort' site; John looking for an escort for the business meeting, Chelsea looking for a way to pay her tuition. Chelsea's profile is the only one that John considers and she is interviewed twice by his staff before even meeting John. Even when she meets John, she has no idea who he is, expecting some "old" man to be her employer. Right from the beginning. Chelsea makes it very clear that sex is not an option. Chelsea is a Christian with very high morals and tells hims that she is waiting until she is married before being "with" someone. John tells Chelsea, "Some man will get a great treasure when he marries you." "In the world he knew, there was no one who made such a commitment. He certainly never did." John, who was brought up in a Christian home and made a commitment at a young age, is not walking with the Lord at this time but tells Chelsea that she will be safe with him. He is not interested in a sexual relationship and also has no intention of marrying again.Read more ›
Cons: It took a while to get into the story and at times seemed too wordy
Overall, this is a truly touching story that pulled me in and engaged my heart.
Some other reviewers have noted that the story line is unrealistic -- that is true but this is also true of many other fiction books. Personally, I read fiction when I want an escape so unrealistic is okay for me. For realism, try a biography.
One other reviewer was disappointed because of too many mentions of sex. I consider myself to be a strong, evangelical Christian and I did not find this to be the case so I guess this is a matter of perspective.
Your heart goes out to Chelsea and John as you begin to read their individual pasts and how they had been hurt by the ones they loved and who they thought loved them. Each took a separate path to begin healing and those paths brought them to each other. Chelsea's path was school in LA and her constant faith. John's path was building his business, in LA as well, but without the faith he had experienced in his home as a young boy. "On 4/19" you understand their agreement of no relationship outside of their contract and no expectations in one year when the contract ended--"On 4/19".
Be prepared to use a few tissues along the way. Your heart will break for each of them as you experience their heartbreak. You may also find yourself looking inside your own soul as Chelsea continues to trust in God and John begins his journey back to God and hopefully to Chelsea.
