About the Author

About the Author Legendary record company promotion man/author Dave Morrell still just thinks of himself as the luckiest fan alive. Growing up in Kearny, New Jersey in the early 1970s, he amassed a collection of Beatles memorabilia so unique that when John Lennon heard about it, he promptly asked to meet the teen. Dave's engaging combination of smarts and moxie put him in the right place at the right time - and, like an East Coast Cameron Crowe, soon he was rubbing shoulders with his musical heroes on a regular basis. Thanks to a tip from a friend, Morrell landed a job as the Assistant Stock Boy in the eight-track tape department at the Warner/Elektra/Atlantic (WEA) warehouse distribution center in New Jersey and began his journey from mega-fan to promo man. Horse-Doggin' and 1974 The Promotion Man New York City are the first two volumes in a series of books from The Morrell Archives that chronicle his remarkable adventures at such record companies as Warner Bros., RCA, Arista, Capitol and Geffen. Having relocated to Los Angeles, Morrell is now doing independent promotion for companies like 429 Records and Lakeshore Entertainment and cruising the California coast in his convertible

About the Author

Legendary record company promotion man/author Dave Morrell still just thinks of himself as the luckiest fan alive. Growing up in Kearny, New Jersey in the early 1970s, he amassed a collection of Beatles memorabilia so unique that when John Lennon heard about it, he promptly asked to meet the teen. Dave’s engaging combination of smarts and moxie put him in the right place at the right time – and, like an East Coast Cameron Crowe, soon he was rubbing shoulders with his musical heroes on a regular basis.

Thanks to a tip from a friend, Morrell landed a job as the Assistant Stock Boy in the eight-track tape department at the Warner/Elektra/Atlantic (WEA) warehouse distribution center in New Jersey and began his journey from mega-fan to promo man, as told in Volumes 1 and 2 of The Morrell Archives, Horse-Doggin’ and 1974 The Promotion Man New York City. The saga continues with Volume 3, 45 RPM (Recollections Per Minute), and the forthcoming Run-Out Groove: Inside Capitol’s 1980s Hits & Stiffs. Since moving to Los Angeles in 2005, Morrell has worked for a number of prominent independent labels and won acclaim as an author. He was a featured speaker at 2014’s Beatlefest in Los Angeles, served as panelist at three GRAMMY Museum Record Theatre events (hosted and created by Marvin Etzioni), and co-hosted United Stations Radio Networks’ “FABCAST,” a Beatles podcast.

What The Critics Are Saying:

45 RPM (Recollections Per Minute)

“I could not help but turn the pages, because the stories are from my era, when music ruled the world and radio was the midwife.” – The Lefsetz Letter

“Morrell's writing style is relaxed in such a way that the fun he had back in the day easily translates to the reader, who'll be regaled with stories about Lou Reed being cool and Lou Reed being a snot, Phil Spector being standoffish but then surprising Morrell with a respectful letter, smoking weed with John Denver, and having a toot with Mick Jagger…” – AntiMusic.com

1974 The Promotion Man New York City

“Morrell does not disappoint....[the book’s] appeal lies in the core story of a young fan becoming an insider in the music business, yet never losing his youthful enthusiasm for his idols.” – BeatleFan Magazine

“a time capsule of the music industry in 1974...a little nugget of a book.” – Rage Monthly

Horse-Doggin’

“a must read” – Maccazine

“There is a lot of great humor...a good book to add to your summer reading list and grab it to take with you to the beach or to read while on a plane or car.“ – MeetTheBeatlesForReal.com

“[Morrell] is a Beatle-phile beyond reproach...For years people have been telling Dave to put down his stories about the biz on paper and he finally has.”

– DISC & DigitalAudioTechnology
