While this is a perfect thing for keeping things like passports, money, and jewelery safe, I was able to come up with another great use for this book safe.

My friend, an avid reader, was celebrating her birthday during the summer of her graduation from high school. So, I bought this to hold a gift card to a local book store. Not only was this a great way to present the gift, but it will also be a great item to have in her dorm.

The condition of the book that I received was brand new. The book has about 100 or so pages that are regular and the rest do not turn. Set into the on top of these pages is a cutout with a velvet-like case, as can be seen in the product picture. But, something I found to be additionally beneficial is that there is a velvet-like lid that covers the case. So your valuables are not in danger from falling out by just tipping the book over.

I am pretty sure the book that you receive is totally random. The removable product sleeve that is on the book when you first receive it has a picture of a Terry Goodkind book. I received a book called The Stones of Summer. I haven't heard of it, but it looked dull. Not that the content is dull (sorry, author of The Stones of Summer).

This is a great purchase and worth every penny. I am going to keep my mind open for more uses of this great product.

Bought 2 of these for my bf. They are the size of standard NYT best-seller hard cover books, so if you don't like the covers they come with or they would look out of place on your book shelves, just go to Salvation Army or Good Will or some other thrift or used-book store where you can pick up hardcover books for pennies on the dollar... and find some more appropriate paper covers.

These are made from real books. Anyone who might casually pick them up *without* opening them would not be able to tell they're book safes (unless the stuff stored inside rattles or jangles around -- which you can prevent by padding it with bubble-wrap or some other light packing material). The pages seem securely glued all the way around.

The internal compartment is black flocked plastic and is not the most sturdy, but you wouldn't want to hide heavy objects in these anyway. The top and bottom of the compartments are glued in place. They mesh well and close securely. That being said, there is no lock, so once someone picks up the book and tries to open it, they'll easily find the compartment.

I also bought a different, locking book safe for my bf. While it is more secure, it is also less likely to pass the "innocuous book" test than these book safes are, because the locking book safe doesn't have realistic page edges. These do. I think if you had a bunch of real books, the locking metal book safe, and these book safes on a bunch of shelves together, you'd pick out the locking metal book safe pretty quickly. These you wouldn't, so despite being less secure and having no locks, these are almost better because they don't stand out as different from other hard cover books. So they're less noticeable and less likely to attract attention in any way. Once someone picks them up, the jig is up, but I think they're less likely to get picked up than the locking metal book safe *because* they look like real books... because they are made from real books!

This book safe was an actual real book and therefore was very nonchalant and perfect for the use i wanted it for. You can actually read the first 50 pages or so in the book but nobody is going to want to because it's such a dull title anyways. I thought the price was fair and i only have a homemade book safe to compare it to, so it's one hundred times better than that one. My only concern was that the width of the storage space wasn't quite large enough for what i was looking for, but jewelry, cash or anything of that nature what fit great.

hahaha..The Stones Of Summer..very dull to the least. the product came a week before the expected arrival time. The book came with a cover that said diversion safe and i laughed to myself thinking about the obviousness, but it was supposed to be removed to uncover a VERY dull title for a book which i mentioned at the top. Alot of space for your everyday stuff like watches, passports, money, and even checkbooks! nobody realized it until i told some friends.haha..overall great product

Exactly how it was described online.

I feel sorry for Dow Mossman and his book The Stones of Summer...the only use his book got was to be destroyed and turned into a safe, lol.

These book safes were better than I expected. It would be impossible to pick them out of a bookshelf, and you could always change the book jacket for something else if the kind of literature that you get (random choice?) doesn't match the other books on your shelf. My pair were two recent actual female fiction works. I was able to put about 60 silver dollars in one, and the other will hold about 75 US bills, that's $1500 in twenties or whatever you have. I like that the first quarter inch or so of the book's pages are original before you come to the plastic cavity insert, which is nicely lined with a felt material. The cover is somewhat difficult to remove. I suppose this cavity would be good for using directly with jewelry or other valuables. Now my only fear is that something will happen to me and my kids will take all my books to Goodwill. Boy, then somebody would get a real prize!
