The other parts cover many discrete electronic items like potentiometers, known simply as pots. And resistors and Analog to Digital converters. The latter are represented by photos of a particular ADC - MCP3008, made by Motorola (aka bat wings). The overall point is to give an easy introduction to electronics. But in a nod to the pervasiveness of software, the book has examples of how to write short code to control the hardware. There is no attempt to give systematic explanations of basic electronics, like Ohm's Law or inductances, or of the complete syntax of a programming language. Those are better left to other texts.
