I was looking for some simple preludes ideas nothing too fancy, that I can either play without putting too much effort or maybe something that i could build upon the original idea. This is not the book for either or, at least for me. It left me exactly the same way i was, running out of prelude's ideas. But that's my opinion maybe other musicians may find the book useful.
All the preludes show imagination, originality and musical integrity. Each prelude is different from the next. The brevity, or even the simplicity of the prelude, must not hide the satisfying content which is inherent in all of them. Indeed, this volume could be kept near the organ console,or in the piano bench, at church, as a vehicle for inspiration toward augmentation of the prelude through improvisation. On the whole, the preludes are evocative and inspiring,
and would be a worthy addition to your music library.
"pair up" with arrangements by other composers for a more extended prelude/offertory/postlude. I have found it particularly useful for the "gather your hearts and minds for worship" period after the announcements for the church I play music for. I appreciate Mr. Winchester's efforts to give those of us with less time this collection to facilitate worship services in our own locations. There are several arrangements on older gospel hymns.
