Rating: 5 Stars
I would like to take a moment to acknowledge Christy Dorrity and her magical mystery tour...of books and food that is! As a fellow writer who cannot decide whether to write books or blog about food, I understand a little of what makes this woman tick.
I first came across her blog when I found the boba tea (that's bubble tea to you) recipe that she'd proposed for Matched by Ally Condie. I have to say that I was hooked. What a perfect recipe for this book, and what a wonderful idea to pair a creative recipe with a story you love.
Christy includes a really nice variety of ya stories as well as a selection of middle grade as well. Each is summarized along with impressions from more well-known book bloggers who've reviewed the titles. Finally, in her personal coup de gras, Christy offers a unique and delicious recipe to go with each one.
As someone who is gluten-sensitive, sadly, I cannot partake of some of her most amazing offerings, her desserts. BUT, there are plenty of tasty entrees, snacks, soups, and more! I have been cooking quite a lot these past ten years and I've learned my way around a wide variety of recipes. I can tell you that Christy's are truly excellent and I look forward to making several of her dishes. My first will be the Dauntless Chicken Skewers. (I may have to make a Divergent burger of my own in celebration of this book!)
If you love books and you love food, the 2012 Book Blogger's Cookbook is a no-brainer. Especially at just $0.99 for the Kindle edition!
Dorrity has done it again. She has paired 22 new books with 22 new recipes and a host of blogger comments, making this book a must on so many levels. Each book is paired with a recipe that shows thought. Sometimes it is a food that is referenced in the book - such as Emily Wing Smith's Back When you were Easier to Love is paired with Chicken Alfredo Pizza as an homage to the road trip pizza eating. On the other hand, some recipes take an idea and use that to compliment the book - such as Tahereh Mafi's Shatter Me is paired with the fragile Caramel Crack dessert, reminiscent of the fragility of Juliette's society, and Juliette's own life. Among the books and the food, you are also introduced to a host of book bloggers (I admit it, Kiss the Book has a couple of quotes within the pages), so your reading list will just continue to get ever longer. Foodies, librarians, readers of all sorts will enjoy this unique offering. Since it is available as a Kindle edition, this is more a personal book or a reference book, not a circulating library book. HOME - ADVISABLE. Cindy, Library Teacher.
