The material is presented in an easy-to-follow format with excellent annotated graphics and interesting pictures. The well-written and detailed descriptions pair nicely with the graphics to provide a good understanding of how to successfully navigate each hazard. Many of the descriptions include detailed soundings to further aid your understanding.
One aspect I find particularly valuable is the inclusion of the latest hydrographic survey graphics for many hazards. These provide an excellent visual understanding of the latest depths. Note that Bob and Ann are careful to emphasize the ICW is constantly changing and they provide the Internet locations where you can download any updated surveys. Compilation of these surveys themselves is well worth the cost of the book.
If you are struggling with the “ICW Mustache”, pay attention to the associated section on page 29. Last year I followed the advice and it really works! This is just one example of the extensive expert knowledge and experience shared in this book.
It is clear from reading the book that Bob and Ann are truly experts on traveling the ICW and have put considerable thought and effort into writing it. Their experiences and advice may make the difference for some skippers between a relaxing and enjoyable cruise versus an unpleasant call to TowBoatUS or Sea Tow.
This is a “must have” book for anyone traveling the ICW.
