This book draws outside of party lines and petty politics to grapple with the bigger questions of a candidate's experience, character, courage, vision, and intelligence, just to name a few. Mr. Iodice seeks to provide the reader with a comprehensive understanding of how our former Commanders in Chief have shaped past and present, on both national and international stages, either through folly or fortitude. This is offered through numerous thoughtful and detailed accounts of particular Presidents' highs and lows, which present an intimate understanding of what makes a capable, if not great, leader. These vignettes are further complemented by an astute use of photos, political cartoons, and other salient imagery.
In all, while being an insightful and enjoyable read, “2016 SELECTING THE PRESIDENT, THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION YOU WILL EVER MAKE", is an imperative and indispensable book for the future that looms before us. There is an obligation to our country, to our children, and to the world at large, to cast an informed, responsible, and judicious vote in the coming election. With this book Mr. Iodice has done his part to provide us with that opportunity.
I highly recommend 2016 Selecting The President as an excellent reference for history related to American Presidents. The book focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of former and current Presidents.
The book presents concise historical information on some of the most influential and controversial American Presidents. Readers will enjoy the many historical photographs, satirical political cartoons and quotes which are interspersed throughout the book which build engagement with each President’s story based on the times in which he lived and served.
The book presents straightforward descriptions of each President’s unique skills and personality, and provides evidence which document how their specific personality traits informed their political decision making and influenced actions which are now their record of public service. The clarity of the writing makes the work accessible to everyone. 2016 Selecting The President provides insights into the various personal relationships, interactions, quirks and foibles of some of America’s greatest leaders.
If past is prologue, then a study of the personalities and characters of our current and former Presidents is a timely topic of interest, particularly during the current political season as we consider the men and women who seek the most important job in the entire world, and who will be granted all the rights and power held within the Office of the President of the United States of America.
The 2016 Primaries and Presidential Debates are underway. 2016 Selecting The President is a very timely work. As we read Iodice’s book at this time, we take a very appropriate trip down memory lane with past leaders. A good thing too, as we have embarked on a rocky journey with a wide array of Presidential Candidates through the 2016 Debates and Primaries. We as voters will soon make a selection of who we want to choose to become the next Commander and Chief.
The comparative information on past Presidents creates a wonderful backdrop to focus our thoughts as we assess the current crop of Candidate’s credentials, personalities and political positions. One of these men or women will become the next leader of the most powerful country in the world and their decisions and how they conduct themselves while in public service will impact the world for many years to come in terms of laws, policies that impact health, finance and rights of people within the U.S. and across the globe. The choice we make is critical to the entire world. It is essential to be informed on how to make that critical decision to cast a vote.
2016 Selecting The President provides a quick review of an expansive topic, U.S. Presidents and their leadership styles and temperaments. The book begins with some of the early Founding Fathers and moves on to current Presidents and those who failed in their attempts to obtain the position. Readers will gains insights on the topic of leadership. The need for clarity in the minds of voters is urgent as they seek to exercise the privilege to select a President. The need to for citizens to vote using intelligence and reason is a part of a personal responsibility.
Truly, this is a very important election and there are many critical matters in the balances and our vote will set the course of history for the next decades and beyond.
2016 Electing The President, brings our decision into relief against the background of numerous intense conflicts on the national and international fronts. The issues and concerns of divergent grass roots movements seek to push agendas through the Executive Office of the President.
The nation is divided in its perspective. The book helps us understand that our choice has an impact not only for us livening in the U.S. but also for others living well beyond our shores.
Iodice’s reminds us that we must choose well to ensure that the U.S. remains strong and secure and peaceful and united. This is the basis for our survival as a nation. Our values must be based on a taking a look at the moral compass must be solid and embodied in the national leader.
Power unchecked in the hands of a poor selection who would act as a tyrant or show signs of a maladapted personality would result in disastrous decision for the world and could bend the tipping point of our history today into various sets of irretrievable imbalances in many regions of the world and internally within our borders.
Urgent action is required to manage issues related to the climate. It is a real concern. Rising levels of the seas and oceans are causing the earth to loose diversity of many species of plants, animals and human habitats. Anyone who is in denial on the topic of climate change need only to visit the homes of native Islanders living in the South Pacific, Indian Oceans or the Caribbean, where the impacts of erosion and rising sea levels are evident. Many Island persons living in coastal areas around the world find their lands regularly flooded and their way of life has been decimated as a result of climate change based on human activity. Folks living in the United States too, are well aware of the impacts of extremes of weather and storms after the experiences of Sandy and Katrina, although Katrina had additional components of negligence with respect to the 9th Ward and the failures of leadership and responsiveness to that crisis.
Social and economic justice movements have taken hold on national and international fronts. Will our next leader ignore the energetic young people who have voiced their concerns or will he or she be impervious and indifferent? Our choice of leader is a vital matter.
Indeed this book reminds us that many people are moved to political action based on deep moral concerns for the debased societal values. Therefore a book which provides examples of the character of the next President is instructive to our choice on who should lead us.
Iodice’s book illustrates by use of a set of examples, how essential it is to ensure the appointment of leaders who have excellent characters and whose behaviors align with a demonstrated set of ethical actions in the public matters as well as in the private realms of life.
The book also reminds using examples of some of our past leaders as to why it is important to not to select a leader who may have the propensity to exert his authority and misuse power of the Presidency for easy manipulation of political enemies based on his/her poor psychological profile an extreme egoist, grandiose narcissist or paranoid personality.
Radical and violent ideologies are coming together in a vortex of unyielding proportions in the Middle East. We are suffering from a lack of confidence in the international financial systems worldwide and uncertainty could become uncontrollable if not managed by a very competent President who can work with others cooperatively to build confidence for continued economic growth to support business in the U.S. and world -wide. A voting track record is one way to assess and predict success or failure but we must also assess how the individual will perform under the extreme burden of the job of President. Character is a very good determinant factor for success of any potential leader.
The truth is sometimes hard to discern in a world where glitz and hype are magnified by slick photo opportunities and staged events. Personas and images are carefully constructed and artfully assumed and practiced for the benefit of the public. Candidates seeking office create the right “optics”, however the scrutiny of the never ending white hot lights which are ever present in the face of 24 hour news cycles, true character and natural leadership abilities or deficiencies will always become evident.
Iodice’s new book 2016 Selecting The President, provides examples and information to help the reader cut through the myriad press statements, sound bites, Sunday shows, poll data, political pundits and talking heads to keep us reminded that beyond the intellectual power that a Candidate may bring, there are other important matters of personality traits and character that we should assess and recognize when we cast a vote. The book is a must read for students of Government and Political Sciences, and for all who intend to vote. It has a useful checklist at the end to help readers make a clearer evaluation of the candidate. The book is very accessible reading and is helpful tool for any reader who wants to define the best qualities in the Candidates who are asking for a vote to become the next Commander and Chief, and President of the United States of America.

It’s easy for Americans to be drawn in by the outrageous “entertainment” of this election that is playing out on an incessant 24 hour news cycle, but it doesn’t serve us well in selecting our next president. This book has given me the opportunity to step away from the noise and the shock value so that I can spend my time understanding and evaluating the factors that are most important in electing our next president, who will shape my children’s world in so many extremely vital ways. 2016 SELECTING THE PRESIDENT: THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION WE MAKE IN OUR LIFETIME is not a critique of the individual presidential candidates – in fact, there is absolutely no mention of them and also no partisan bias whatsoever, which I appreciated, as it allows the reader to be focused on the pure and objective study of character, skills, experience, and a historical account of prior presidents and what we can learn from them.
