- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2015Style: CanSize Name: 16 ozVerified PurchasePlastic wood is an old staple in my home as I have been building and repairing furniture for many years. When I opened my can, and found it dried out, I immediately got onto Amazon (where else?) and ordered a new one. This works very well, but deep grooves may need two stages for filling before being perfect and ready for a final fine sanding. It stains well and takes on the color of the wood around it that is stained. Presently, I am using it in a practical math course for students with learning disabilities. We are learning geometry and putting our knowledge to use by building miniature furniture. We have just completed the top to a hexagonal table that was made by bonding strips of thin wood together. The outer frame of the table top needed small amounts of plastic wood to fill into the corner angles which had been cut with a precise mitre saw. It dries quickly. However, do NOT use this in a room that doesn't have very good ventilation because its fumes are very strong and very toxic. Use it in a well ventilated area where the exhaust is turned on constantly or you can quickly become overwhelmed by the strong fumes. It has always been a fantastic product, and still is, I'm happy to say.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2014Style: CanSize Name: 16 ozVerified PurchaseI've used several different wood putty's in the past and based on the reviews thought I'd give this one a try. I found it very easy to work with (I allowed it to dry over night. I used a small amount at a time from the container, keeping the container sealed as much as possible. I noticed within about 15 minutes, the stuff I was working with seemed to harden up and became less responsive. So, I tossed it and then scooped up another little bit. I also used latex gloves as I didn't want to deal with trying to clean my hands.
In general: for this putty, it's better to over fill the area you need, then later sand it off. The few areas I didn't do this (I tried to level it off with the putty knife) left noticeable indentations and irregularities. I found it fairly easy to sand with a medium grit (150), just took some patience. Once sanded (I was using pine) it blended in well. I was "pickling" my project and it blended right in with the final finish. The exception was a couple of screw holes that were noticeable only because they did not continue the wood grain effect.
The directions state to store the can with the "top" on the bottom. This is actually a good practice for all paints and similar products. The logic is that if you don't have a good seal, the little bit of air that leaks in will seal to the contents in the can and stop the leak. Storing cans with the "top" on the top can result in a dry skim covering the top of the contents--because the air leak continues. I only included this as a few reviewers mentioned that this seemed rather bizarre to them.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2022Style: CanSize Name: 16 ozVerified PurchaseI keep acetone with me and dilute it as needed to keep it soft and easy to spread. This product dries fast and rock hard! Excellent product that doesn't need mixing (unlike epoxies) and spreads easier (with the acetone) than the epoxies I have tried. If you read the can, it does tell you why to store it upside down. Like other reviews, the can does seem only half full, but the it states the total amount inside on the label/product description.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2016Style: CanSize Name: 4 oz.Verified PurchaseLove this product. It's white which is awesome, it is hard to find a this kind of putty in white that you can sand down - it behaves just like wood. My local hardware store does not carry anything like it in white. It dries quick (lots of solvent in there) so make sure you're working quickly with small amounts to prevent the can from hardening. Speaking of the solvent, please read the proper use directions and make sure you have plenty of ventilation and no open flames around. It's a small can but it could cause discomfort in an adult with prolonged exposure and could easily catch fire if you're not careful. Even though it's a small can, it goes a long way. I filled a hole in a hollow door that was approximately 6 inches in diameter easily. It dries pretty quickly (maybe a couple hours to 24 at the most to be sure) and then it behaves as close to real wood as anything I've seen.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2022Style: CanSize Name: 16 ozVerified PurchaseDoes the job but is finicky to use. Before you start using get some ACETONE. I just got a small bottle of acetone nail polish remover from the Dollar Tree. You will need it!!! You do not need the large container the hardware stores sell unless you have a large can of this stuff.
PRO: It does the job. Dries very fast--5 minutes or less and you can sand it down.
CON: 1) Once you remove what you need from the can, cover it IMMEDIATELY. The top of the product dries out very fast as the acetone evaporates. The the stuff gets difficult to work with. I constantly had to put a capful of acetone in the can to thin it out to keep using it. Be sure to thin it out a bit with a little acetone before putting it away.
2) Recommend wearing a mask as the evaporating acetone stinks to high heaven. Fumes gave me a headache.
3) When you are ready to put it away, cover the top with plastic food wrap before putting the cover back on or you may find the product dried out when you go back to use it a day or two later.
If I had not started with this product, I would find a different product that was perhaps water based and didn't kill off my brain cells. Could only use it for a short time before getting a headache...time to stop for awhile. Be sure to do #3 above.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2021Style: CanSize Name: 4 oz.Verified PurchaseI am 69 and have been using Plastic Wood for probably 50 years. I don't use it very often so it eventually dries out and that happened with the tube I had. You can reconstitute it with Acetone but I had pretty much used up what I had so purchased this can. This will probably last me for the next 5 to 10 years. BTW, they print the exterior of the can upside down on purpose. You store it upside down, with the printing right side up. This is so that when you invert the can and take the lid off, all the product is not in the bottom of the can. I remember the old cans were this way. It's not a mistake.
