I do wish the box was made of that "plastic cardboard" corrugated material (like that used in yard signs, etc.) instead of just regular cardboard (yep, it's just a cardboard box, seriously). If you are going to be buying some batt insulation as part of an attic insulation project anyway, or have some leftover pieces laying around, you can save yourself about $40 by looking for the version without the "optional" insulation (which is really not optional in my opinion) and adding your own. But it would be stupid to buy a whole pack or roll of batt for $30 - $40 if you don't need insulation for anything else. Just swallow your pride, set your Home Improvement Hero ego aside, and pay the man. It's still WAY better than any of the other similar products out there.Read more ›
Along with adding an additional R19 of blown insulation in the attic I expect this to reduce my energy cost of my upstairs unit. It appears that the 95+ degree days are about over but I will watch the performance of my upstairs AC (it never shut off and could not stay below 79 at the peak of the heat). I could tell the difference from pre to post installation on the temperature of the stair cover. So far so good.
This definitely beats the option that the insulator recommended. He reduced his quote to me by $310 and his cover was only R3.5. This unit was $147 delivered and 20 minutes to install after the insulator was done with the attic. He wanted the information that came with the product.

I would recommend it to save on your electric bill
The ad literature failed to mention it essentially was a fold-out cardboard box with two pads of insulation and a fabric cover. It is not secured or hinged to the floor. Read morePublished on October 30, 2013 by Henry Chase
Easy to install, just remember insulation goes on top of box, under the solar cover. Made the room stay evenly heated not the 5-8 degree difference without it. Read morePublished on November 16, 2012 by boinger
The entrance to the attic is slighly warped and air leaks through. By installing this, it stopped the air leakage. Read morePublished on October 8, 2011 by Timothy J Mummert
