Add insulation on the sides, or leave off for clearance between trusses. We are the ORIGINAL and the BEST - Preferred by Contractors. Hundreds and hundreds of very satisfied customers: "I purchased the Battic Door attic stair cover. I can't believe the difference it makes! The furnace does not turn on NEARLY as often as it did before. Great product, and worth every penny!" --Felix F. The Battic Door Attic Stair Cover is an energy-saving device that covers pull-down/folding attic stairways, reducing air leakage and heating/cooling loss. A significant amount of heat loss in a typical home is caused by air leakage through folding attic stairway openings. These openings cause tremendous air leakage, which very often goes unnoticed. This low cost, patented, unique device can be installed easily in minutes to cover, insulate and reduce air transfer between the house and the attic space. It is light, low cost, and folds flat for low cost shipping and compact storage. Our unique design fits 22-22.5 x 54 rough openings, and has been engineered to fit virtually any folding attic stairway. The Battic Door is priced very economically and has a large immediate and long-term benefit that is easy to see. Payback for the homeowner is months, not years. The Battic Doors benefits are year-round, in Summer HEAT and Winter COLD! New - buy factory direct! If your door is 21" wide this is the correct size. If your door is 24" wide, see our 25x54 (other listing).

I purchased this to minimize the cool drafty air coming from around my attic door. I am a 5'2" 125lb female and I was able to install this with no issue in about 30 minutes. My only complaint is that the thermal material is thin and very easy to tear away from the reinforced stitching, but I just covered mine with duct tape and I have no issues.

Although very simple in design (I hope they have patented this) it makes a huge difference in the temperature of the room with our attic door in it. Prior to installation, in the South Texas summer heat, you could feel the heat radiating out of the attic doorway. It made the room unpleasant to be in. After installation, the room is as cool as, if not cooler than the other rooms on the second floor of the house. My wife is very picky and sensitive to temperature and this product has her seal of approval (which is not given lightly!) 5 stars.

First, let me say that this thing REALLY works - the reduction in drafts, hot / cold air, and bugs and debris coming through the attic stair hatch is impressive. As in ZERO. You will, however, feel like a total idiot when you first open the package and realize that you just paid $130 for what is essentially a cardboard box with a mylar fabric cover and about $5 worth of insulation. (My wife burst out laughing when I told her how much I paid, she of little faith.) I thought, "I could make this thing for $20." Yeah, and a few hours of my time driving all over to every home improvement, hardware and craft store in town to round up all the materials. Good thing (for them) that they have this thing patented - if they ever took this on "Shark Tank", without a patent they'd get laughed off the set.

I do wish the box was made of that "plastic cardboard" corrugated material (like that used in yard signs, etc.) instead of just regular cardboard (yep, it's just a cardboard box, seriously). If you are going to be buying some batt insulation as part of an attic insulation project anyway, or have some leftover pieces laying around, you can save yourself about $40 by looking for the version without the "optional" insulation (which is really not optional in my opinion) and adding your own. But it would be stupid to buy a whole pack or roll of batt for $30 - $40 if you don't need insulation for anything else. Just swallow your pride, set your Home Improvement Hero ego aside, and pay the man. It's still WAY better than any of the other similar products out there.

The Battic Door assembled easily and fit perfectly over the pull down stair opening. It definitely seals off the opening, recently pulled down the stairs on a cold day and not draft coming down

Simple idea that works great, fits well and should save some money in the long run. It also qieted some of the furnace noise from the attic. 20 minutes to put it together.

Overall, this is a good product. I wish that the sides were about 3 inches deeper to prevent the ladder from hitting the insulation.

This is great. We live in an older house and had problems with the top floor being hot in the summer and freezing in the winter. This has really helped to regulate the heat. It was a very good investment.

This was easy to put together, just like the website said. I have a tight space at the top of my stairs but I was able to put this together and install it in about 20 minutes. Make sure that you put it together inside the attic. The box was a bit finicky in that it did not want to snap in place at first. Simply pull the side in as you are pulling the end flap over and it will "click" into place faster. It also appears that it could benefit from some additional insulation on the sides and ends inside the box. I will check the surface temp of the sides versus the top in a couple of weeks to see.

Along with adding an additional R19 of blown insulation in the attic I expect this to reduce my energy cost of my upstairs unit. It appears that the 95+ degree days are about over but I will watch the performance of my upstairs AC (it never shut off and could not stay below 79 at the peak of the heat). I could tell the difference from pre to post installation on the temperature of the stair cover. So far so good.

This definitely beats the option that the insulator recommended. He reduced his quote to me by $310 and his cover was only R3.5. This unit was $147 delivered and 20 minutes to install after the insulator was done with the attic. He wanted the information that came with the product.
