As with the previous volumes, I found myself not waiting for the paperback and literally reading it on Nook in a few hours.
The war has finally arrived! I had anticipated this turn in the story after the buildup in the plot over the previous 2 volumes. First however, there are private wars that must be fought within at least 2 of the major characters. One must face his family with the truth which has been a struggle and source of anxiety for him. Another must deal with his own guilt of involvement in the corrupt and wicked establishment, after which he takes action in quite an amazing way (reminded me of Jehu crashing a party in the Old Testament LOL). Some characters that seem minor thus far, will step up and take significant roles in this volume. A very wonderful book indeed.

The 299 days series has been quite the journey all the way through to book 8. I have felt like I was a part of the team and felt like I am a part of the struggle for freedom the characters find themselves in. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and this series. I highly recommend this book and this series to everyone that enjoys reading honestly. But more specifically I recommend this book and this series to fellow patriots. 299 days is a glimpse of an increasingly likely situation that is to arise in the United States and readers would gain much in the form of information, inspiration, hope, and encouragement from this amazing series.

<spoiler alert>. While books 1 to 6 were awesome,7 was as dismal, short and badly written as it gets with dead end plot lines, incongruent stories all over the place, book 8 is 'almost' mono plot. All Grant all the time, with a few divergent stories. It also, like many of the different books, it under delivers at the end. Its SHORT. Its a long chapter for $9.99. There should be at least 5 of these to make a real book. The other way it under delivers is that while book is titled WAR <Spoiler Alert>, and the 17th actually deploys, by the end of the book they have not even fired ONE SHOT !!! So we have to WAIT until book 9, before the 17th even reaches Olympia and gets into the action. Sorry Glen, but us Tom Clancy and Brad Thor and Vince Flynn readers really expect a lot more from a book. I understand that this might not be your current model but this is feed back from Me to You and the Community. When your books are finally done and you make one giant book, it'll be a great read. Probably one of the best, but I don't like paying $9.99 for a chapter. You should do an A/B test and a survey to see if you'd actually get more money from $5.00 books than $9.99 books. Despite my misgivings about books 7 and 8, I still had to buy them. I had to find out what happens, yet I read the book over 2 nights.

As with all of the other "299 Days" books, this is a great read, fantastic story & way too short. I always want more at the end....the books don't come fast enough. Keep them coming! Way to go Glen, I hope some day to go to a book signing in the CDA, Spokane area. Of course Moscow, Lewiston, ID or Pullman,WA would be even better. This is a series that everyone should read...no matter what your political beliefs are or where you live.

Spoiler alert!

In the beginning the book talks about how Grant is the ranking officer should stay out of the fighting if possible because he needs to stay alive then in the chapter "The New Scouts" Ted puts Grant "on point" making the "Team" the new scouts for the convoy, while 100 troops are sitting in a semi back in the convoy. Really Ted? Really? You send the unit commander and a small team to go scout ahead miles in front of the convoy after the previous scout team was just wiped out? This is easily the most unrealistic moment of the entire series so far. Would have been MUCH better to have had Grant stay behind with the convoy. Other than this, "The War" was better than the last book which felt kinda like filler. Would have given "The War" 5 stars but using Grant as a scout while 100 troops are available in the convoy costs "The War" 2 stars.

I can't get enough of this series. I plow through each book. Ignoring everything around me until it is over. Then it's just a waiting game for the next book in the series. Great work Mr. Tate.

I like the series. book8 is better than book 7 but still very short. I grew up in Olympia so I have a connection to the series. I got an email the other day asking for donations to make the series into a movie and while I'm a right wing conservative I was disappointed in the sense that the books are so expensive for what they are that I have a hard time giving glen anymore of my money.
