They do not slip down the calves like other socks can. So far, they have not ripped. I did have a pair of 2XU's white "Race" sock rip in the toe. These "Recovery" socks have really strong reinforced sole area. They are the most rugged socks I have ever worn. They also provide compression for your foot with that grey elastic area.
On the down side, they are very difficult to put on at first. The socks must be worked little by little up the foot, and then over the heel. It takes time. However, as you become accustomed to this, it gets easier. Now, I can do this almost as quickly as normal socks.
Make sure you wash with cold water, and only air dry for longest durability.
At the top of the calf, there is not much of a impression remaining on the skin, after sock removal. They have lasted 20 to 30 wearings. However, after a while, they do begin to lose some of the flexibility, so they do not stretch as much. They are harder to put on, and somewhat tighter. I thought that if I cared for these socks properly, they would last longer. As a result, I can't recommend this brand based on the recent pricing. I found that a brand called Vitalsox has similar quality at a lower price.
I bought medium size. I am 6' 185 lbs., and my calves are about 16 inches at their largest. These socks are comfortable although it takes me a bit (compared to non-compression socks) to get them over my heels. They are designed and marked for left and right feet, although I wasn't paying attention and put them on backwards the first time. They weren't "uncomfortable" on the wrong feet, but when I noticed and switched them, they were even more comfortable. These socks provide compression from toes all the way to the knee. These are a perfect length for me, wrapping above the calf muscle and stopping just at the knee. They are very comfortable to wear, and for as tight as they are, they don't hurt when they come off (I have some dress socks that leave a little painful indentation at the top when you take them off).
When wearing these with a suit I wore a thin pair of dress socks overtop for two reasons. One, they really to compress the foot, which meant my shoes were feeling a little loose. Two, the design on the sole has some white on it that wraps around the heel and it was visible above the shoe and I didn't care for that with a dark suit.
I am very impressed with these socks and have recommended my wife get a pair. I will always wear these after a hard run from now on!
I'm 5'10". weigh about 175, and I have 16.5" calves. I run and lift weights, and like many of us who are considering this product, my lower legs and feet are often sore and fatigued. Finally, I've found the supplement to the constant load and exercise.
The quality is truly impressive, with no loose threads, and a fine, soft weave that feels smooth against your skin. It breathes without feeling wispy, and it doesn't have the synthetic feel of nylon. It's extremely durable, and snugness is at the perfect level; not too tight, but on the huggy side. I'd describe the support and compression as therapeutic.
They were wonderful right out of the box, and I'm delighted with the mix of comfort and relief. I don't want to take them off, in fact. By the way, they're also simple to put on--check out this video: https://www.vitalsox.com/vitalsox_usa/how-to-put-on/. (The competitor, but it's a great tutorial.)
I'm too poor to buy cheap stuff. Do it right the first time with these, and you won't regret it.
Earlier I had artificial synovial fluid injections (Supartz), which caused the problem, my calf muscles got very swollen.
Now using these compression socks, the swelling and pain are greatly reduced.
Each calf is down about 1/2" in just a few days.
Hoping to order the next smaller size soon.
The only reason for 4 stars, not 5: It’s challenging to get the socks on. If there was a thin red line down the middle of the sole of the sock, that might make it easier to get the socks oriented correctly.
But these 2XU socks are definitely working for me.
