I was really intrigued by the blurb but sadly, the book didn't meet my expectations.
It took me a while to get into the story - it was really slow paced. Lots of narrative but nothing interesting was actually going on. Lia spends her time overthinking everything to the point I couldn't stand being in her head. Her POV became overbearing and monotonous.
When Caleb finally made an appearance I literally got goosebumps with his attempt to woo Lia. Their chemistry was amazing but Lia's behaviour just fizzled out all the thick sexual tension they had building between them. I liked how Caleb came across in the beginning but as the story progressed, I found myself detaching from his character. Both characters were hot/cold and I couldn't really say I understood Lia's great idea to go out with someone else.
Lia spends a lot of time in her own head overanalysing everything especially, when Caleb was concerned. I wanted more interactions/dialogue between her and Caleb. She spent more time talking to her friend than she did to Caleb. Their relationship wasn't explored fully and the characters felt under developed.
The story definitely had more potential. I struggled to warm/understand both characters. The author captured their smouldering attraction beautifully but the characters unfortunately, failed to draw me in.
Sadly, this one wasn't for me however, please don't let my review deter you from giving this book a go. You never know, this one might be for you!
3 Dates is the story of second chances and daring to go after the love you thought you never deserved.
Lia lost her virginity to Caleb, the former star quarterback, just weeks before graduating high school and leaving for college. Now, four years later, Lia has put herself up for a date auction in order to raise money for her sorority. And just like that, Caleb is back in her life after having gone off and built a tech company from the ground up. Now he wants Lia back, and is willing bid a million dollars in the date auction just for three dates with her. Caleb won’t let Lia slip away from him this time, and he’s going to pull out all the stops on his three dates to woo and wow Lia just to convince her to not run this time.
3 Dates was a longer reader. S.J. Mullins put a lot of detail in this story - at times too much, which inevitably just slowed the story down. I did think this was a cute story - Lia always felt that Caleb was the one who got away, but she soon finds out that Caleb feels the exact same way about her. It’s serendipitous, but could have very easily happened in less pages and with a lot less of Lia putting herself down. I get it - we all feel insecure - but Lia was doubting herself every other page. From thinking Caleb only slept with her because he was a typical teenage boy and would’ve slept with anyone, to wondering why he bid on her at the auction throughout all of their dates, Lia’s insecurities about herself ended up detracting from the story somewhat. The premise of the story makes for a sweet romance, but too many details and too many insecurities take away from the flow of the story and can easily take away from the overall reading experience. It was a good story, just maybe a few pages longer than it needed to be.
The Cover looked great, The Blub was promising but the book as an whole sadly did not met my expectations... Don't get me wrong it was still a great story but it felt like something for me was missing... Yes it would of been awesome to have dual point of views and maybe why this was lacking for me.......... And was it a bit long?....For me Yes! It was just a tad but some people can handle an extra long story... And you know what? This is only my opinion of this story, you might just really, really like or love it.
Caleb and Lia had know each other in High School and she actually gave him her Virginity, right before she left for College and that was all she thought he wanted from her as he was the untouchable Star Quarterback.
4 years later and they cross paths once again...... Lia was talked into Auctioning herself in the Sorority Fund Raiser and as you guessed right, Caleb was the one to Win the Auction for 3 Dates with Lia. Which cost him a cool Million Dollars.
Was she worth the Million Dollars? Not by my standards but then again I would of done a whole lot more for that Million Dollars *wink wink*
The 3 Dates were beautiful and Caleb had put a lot of thought into them as he was going to Woo the girl and get her back. and that played a bit part in why this got 4 Stars from me. I would of loved to hear some of Caleb's point of views and that for me would of really made the story.
Don't get me wrong I did enjoy this story and I was lucky enough to get this book as an Arc for a Voluntary Review. So Thank you SJ Mullins for sharing it. Good luck and I hope to read more stories of yours in the future.
