However, at the time of purchase I was already vegan and pretty accustomed to the diet and lifestyle so I'm not really sure how the whole 30-day-challenge aspect would be for someone who is completely new to the vegan lifestyle. Day 1 has an excellent write-up on how vegan food is just normal food, not some kind of weird-bean-sprout-hippie-abomination. Day 2 has some great tips on stuff we already love that are already vegan. Day 3 has advice on how to stock your kitchen. While these chapters are very well written and enjoyable to read individually, I feel several "days" worth of chapters should be read at once in preparation for someone starting a vegan lifestyle. I totally get it though -- it's a lot of information and I can see that Colleen is trying to break it down into chunks of information that are easy to absorb. If you are new to veganism, I recommend just reading through several days ahead WHILE committing to your first month on a plant-based diet, then possibly skipping around in the chapters if you have any questions that can be answered. Like a how-to-vegan instruction manual.
Overall I would recommend this book as a resource to anyone looking to explore veganism, improve their lifestyle in a realistic and sustainable way, and some food for thought about the way animals are used by humans. Also some easy to prepare and delicious recipes.

If you have been vegan for more years than you haven't and think you know all there is to know; buy this book, and here's why:
Colleen Patrick-Goudreau is the most considered, rational, intelligent and personable vegan I have ever come across, she isn't all about scare tactics, threats, food fear-mongering, empty promises or guilt trips - she writes eloquently and with authority about her passion, and her goal is to inform. If knowledge is power, this book is going to make you a cape wearing, card carrying vegan superhero.
Any question you could have about being vegan is answered in this book, which, although it is called "The 30-Day Vegan Challenge", could just as easily be called "The Ultimate Vegan Handbook". Where do you get your protein? Can you live without cheese (is life without cheese worth living??)? Is tofu evil? Will my friends hate me? Can I still wear my leather boots? What if I'm not perfect? All of those questions and more are covered in this extensive resource; nutrition, kitchen basics, relationships, holiday celebrations, health, weight loss.... all covered, and covered in an easily accessible, easily understandable and enjoyable to read manner.
30 days. We can do anything for 30 days. For new or non-vegans, the 30-day Vegan Challenge may seem scary or daunting, but with Colleen as your guide, you will sail through those 30 days and realise at the other end that you don't want to stop.
So many aspiring vegans find themselves faltering in their resolve when questioned or pressured by friends and family, often struggling with being the only vegan in the room and lacking support; this book will be their constant companion through the hard times, and their go-to-reference; Colleen's words will affirm and validate the wonderful joy it is to be vegan.
...all this and I haven't even mentioned the recipes! Oh my, the recipes.I am a cookbook addict. I can admit it. I love looking at pretty pictures of food and drooling over things I'd like to make, and although this is not strictly a cookbook, it certainly ticks those boxes. With this book, I made a creamy pasta delight that (finally, FINALLY) pleased my non-vegan family, and for that alone I will be eternally grateful - that recipe, Pasta Alfredo with Walnut Parmesan - is now my crowd pleasing, vegan and non-vegan delighting, number one standby pasta recipe! Although I would urge you to buy this book for that recipe alone, there are so many more amazing recipes (Mexican Chocolate Cake, Creamy Leek Polenta, Smokey White Bean Chowder, Tiramisu, to name a few, and only a few), as well as countless tips and suggestions for various meals and occasions.
