I've had my dog for more than ten years and we've done well together, so Tamar's Loved Dog book was more of a confirmation that I'd been on the right path than anything else. But it was a lovely read and put important concepts into words and language that could be shared more easily with others. My dog doesn't have any behavior problems and she's pretty much happily under voice control at any time.
What this book, "30 Days to a Well-Mannered Dog" does is it makes Tamar's methods and philosophy even more practical and explains how to teach your dog a wide, wide range of behaviors in easy, specific and compassionate ways that are most importantly understandable and natural to your dog.
One more thing I'd like to add about the training methods proscribed in the book is that they are going to help you to be proud of yourself, and proud of your own evolution and action as a human being, rather than lead you to act like some domineering ego-maniac that you don't want to be.
I can't think of any other dog training books I would recommend over these two. And now that I've read the library copy of "30 Days..." I'm here on Amazon to buy my own copy so that I can have this as a reference for years and work on teaching my dog some of the more subtle behaviors in our own time.
So even though the book is titled "30 days..." and looks like it might be geared toward new dog owners, the advice in it really isn't, nor is it only geared towards dogs that need improvement in their manners. My dog is mature, well-behaved, and we have a strong, established relationship and yet I still think this is an invaluable book with good advice that I can incorporate now and in the future. And it's going to be really great when I'm starting over with a new dog too.
Thanks Tamar for putting out another great book and one that really adds and builds upon your first!
