Editorial Reviews

Review

"Stacey Wiedower takes readers on a fun and wild ride with her debut novel. Fans of Sophie Kinsella and Lindsey Kelk will enjoy this book." -Melissa Amster, Chick Lit Central

"This is so flipping fun ... The characters are well-developed, it's funny and I wanted to be the main character." -Carol Maloney Scott, author of
There Are No Men

"Even though I wasn't looking for love at 30, most of what Erin went through in this book resonated with me. To me it was about finding what made you happy and being true to that ... I liked this book so much that I decided to make my own bucket list." -Heather Balog, author of The 8 Mistakes of Amy Maxwell

"This book is absolutely captivating." -Amazon 5-star review

About the Author

Stacey had barely blown out the candles on her 21st birthday cake when she took her first job as a reporter at a daily newspaper. She later followed her passion to interior design school and spent three years working at a firm with bizarre similarities to the set of Designing Women. Today she funnels that experience into her work as a full-time freelance writer, penning everything from magazine articles to website copy to a bi-weekly column called Inside Design. She also writes romantic comedy, and the zany characters she's met poke their heads into her stories from time to time. Stacey lives in Memphis, Tenn., with her husband, also a writer, and a son who's inherited their overactive imaginations.

First of all let me say that no one was more surprised at how much I enjoyed this book than me. Romantic comedies are usually not my genre. I'm more a mystery/romance kind of gal. I also do not partake in Facebook, Twitter or blogs. So...I wasn't sure if I could really even understand the premise of the story, let alone enjoy it. SOOOOO WRONG!!! This story and the characters are so delightful, I had more than one "put down the book and go to bed, you need to get up in the morning" moment. Erin Crawford is such a "real" character and her sadness, confusion, embarrassing moments, feelings of betrayal, loves, laughs and growth spurts come through as so genuine and just make this such a good read.
I would not hesitate to recommend this book and I really look forward to reading other works by this author.

This book is absolutely captivating. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like it; there was nothing wrong, it just wasn't "my kind of book". But a funny thing happened; I couldn't find a place to stop. I don't know if it was the flow of the book or just the overall excellent writing, but this book that I didn't think I would enjoy was awesome! I have loved all of the cozy mysteries GHP has published so I decided to try this one even though it was not a mystery, and I am so glad I did. It reads a bit like a New Adult novel but the people are around 30 years old and for the main character, for Erin Crawford, the year and a half before she turns 30 are her real growing years.
When she and some friends make a list of things they would like to accomplish, she decides to take it seriously, even though she was seriously drunk when she came up with some of the ideas. She both journals and blogs about her experiences and that blog for which she expected to have about five followers explodes, changing her world. Both the 30 first dates, yes 30 guys, and the challenges she has given herself lead to fun and frustration, but in the end what matters most is that she discovers who she is and, well, what matters most.

I was browsing for a fun, quick read that I could cuddle up with after the little one went to bed. I tend to choose books, as my husband would put it, that I don't really have to think about while reading, and seeing I'm a sucker for Rom-com movies (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days being my favorite) I started to give the genre a try with books. 30 First Dates was exactly what I was looking for and I'm glad it came up as a suggestion after my previous books (Just Friends with Benefits & Remember This)! Now, I would love to see a 35 by 35, especially since Erin mentioned it at the end of the book, and because I just love sequels, trilogies, etc that give the full scope of characters, really follow them, and “close” (I’m not sure I’m choosing the right word there) their stories at the end (when you really enjoy the original book). The previous two books I read I was "satisfied" with the ending, but I just want to keep reading more about Erin. Since 30 First Dates was such a fun read I know any follow up would be just as enjoyable. I look forward to the authors future work, regardless of whether or not it’s a relatable follow up.

This is an enjoyable read. This is the first book that I have read by this author, but I am looking forward to reading more by her. Erin has realized that she is almost 30 years old, and comes up with a bucket list to complete before she turns 30. She starts a relationship blog and decides on a mission to go out with 30 men before she turns 30. Once I started reading this book, it grabbed my attention and I didn’t want to put it down until I finished. This book has it all romance, humor and adventure. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author in the future.
A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Great first novel.
Interesting concept that Stacey has cleverly used to flesh out a romance novel yet maintain your interest throughout the various twists and turns it takes. She plants a thought early (for us romantics) that she keeps just out of reach. An interesting "cast of characters" keeps the pages turning. Is love always going to be just a concept for others to achieve. You will have to keep reading right to the end to find out. Hard to put down.

I thought this was going to be a hoot. I was looking forward to hearing about the dates, but that information was skipped so the author could relate too much about the main character, who I got tired of real quick. She was a snob, and wasn't any more tolerant by the end of the book

30 first dates was an endearingly fun read. You could tell the author expressed some of her own anxst about reaching 30 and what that meant to her...and her amusing group of characters. Thanks , I enjoyed it.

I had more fun with this book than I was expecting. Wiedower was smart in that she had Erin not simply go on 30 First Dates before her 30th birthday, but combine than with a list of 30 bucket-list type things to cross off, too. Some of the bucket list items she did on dates, others she did with her girlfriends, like go to Paris with her friend and roommate, Sherri. In Paris, they did meet some men.

Erin starts a blog about her experience, and it quickly gains tons of followers, in part because she used to date a guy named Noah, who is dating a bestselling author, who had been dating a famous actor named Colin Marks. When the author, Amelia, breaks things off with Colin to go back to Noah, it’s a tabloid sensation, and what Erin’s role may have been in helping Noah and Amelia get together, and therefore America’s sweethearts end things, makes Erin’s blog big news. The blog becomes bigger news after getting coverage in other media, including TV.

You can figure out the gist of how things are going to end in chapter one. Another flaw with the book is that I could never figure out why Erin stayed friends with her very self-centered friend Hilary, who slept with a man Erin was dating. Hilary is no longer a close friend, but Erin is still the maid of honor in her wedding, despite the fact that Hilary had cheated on her fiancé more than once. Also, I thought there were a lot of opportunities for humor that just weren’t here. Obviously, humor is not Wiedower’s style, but I feel like it’s been a long time since I’ve found a book of fiction that makes me laugh out loud. I keep having to turn to nonfiction to laugh so hard I fall off the couch. What’s going on, publishing industry? We readers like to laugh *and* cry.
