I loved the mat- at first anyway and then after using it only about 5-6 times it developed what I can only describe as "stretch marks" They showed up on the fondant so I can't even use it anymore. Sweet WIse admited they have had a few of the same complaints but they only offered $5 off a new purchase!

I purchased The Mat over a year ago. In essence it is a great tool for rolling out my MM Fondant. Be sure to keep re-positioning the Mat as you are rolling out your MM Fondant, occasionally flipping it over to compare sides and soothing out any ripples.

Mine had developed winkles, which transfers into the MM Fondant. Makes for a poor finish on a cake. Boo !!
I got the bright idea to steam the vinyl, used a tea kettle, then lay it flat to cool. Wa-la, no more wrinkles.

Also, some said they had a problem with the fondant sticking to the Mat? I apply a light coat of shortening to the fondant side of the Mat prior to using; never had a sticking problem. Of course I make my own MM Fondant, have never used regular fondant, so don't know how it works.

As an alternative, go to Walmart and have them cut you two 36" x 36" pieces of their heavier, not heaviest, weight clear vinyl and give it a try. Be sure to wash it good, grease (shortening) it, and keep it rolled up on a tube.
Although it is not "The Mat", for an occasional baker it is easier that applying with a rolling pin. I think mine was less than $5.

I have tried every which way to get this silly mat to work with my fondant and it absolutely refuses! The fondant sticks so badly that by the time you have spent rolling it out perfectly, you ruin it trying to peel it off the surface of the mats. I have tried Fondarific, Wilton, homemade, and Satin Ice with absolutely no success. The fondant I roll straight on my clean counter surface by far surpasses the fondant that I roll with the mat (mostly because fondant rolled with the mat has never actually made it onto a cake because it's so stuck to the mats!). I watched the video and she makes it look so easy that of course I was sold immediately, but after trying it repeatedly I am very dissatisfied. It is possible that my problem is user error, but I have been working with fondant for a while now and have never had these kinds of problems. Good luck to you if you actually decide to spend your money on the mats and throw away your money on their ridiculous shipping charges!

I received my mat in the mail yesterday and couldn't wait to try it out this morning.
After unrolling it and seeing the size of the mat I was a little worried it would be too big for my counter top but it worked out perfect.
When I rolled the fondant out between THE MAT layers I was surprised at how easy it was to use! It came out smooth wrinkle free and just perfect! I couldn't be happier! I highly recommend this product!

I was very jazzed after seeing the YouTube video instructions, so bought both the ProMat (biggie for up to 20" cakes) and MiniMat.

EVERY SINGLE time I have tried to separate rolled fondant from Mat surface, it has stuck. I mean not just a little bit. So much so that I had to start over from scratch.

Emails to SweetWise came back with it being a user issue - that I must not have had the surfaces lined up correctly. Tried it again, this time with a wedding the next day, and had to go back to the old corn starch, powdered sugar, kitchen tabletop and silicone roller to get the cake done.

How can this be 100% perfect for some, and yet 100% awful for others? Is it a production batch issue? I, too, have used different brands of fondant at different humidity levels. Still the same unhappy results.

I'm frustrated - intensely, but will give it one more try. Then, it's going to be the Bath mat or something similar.

Very dissatisfied! I purchased what I thought was this mat a whole back and was very happy with it. The latest one I received I believe was a knockoff! Nothing printed on the mat for measurements and not even the same package. The clear vinal at the craft store is what came in my box!

This is a great product. It's made of durable material, which means it will last for a long time. You will require a large table when using The Mat. Also, if you are making flowers and need to cut several petals at once, you can place them under to keep the fondant/gum paste from drying while assembling the flowers.

I purchased this product specifically because other people I know rave about The Mat. I read the instructions carefully before using, and followed them to the letter. It was extremely difficult to determine which side was "shiny" and which one was "matte," there was no clear winner. When I attempted to use this mat to roll out fondant I found that the mat made it extremely difficult to physically roll out the fondant. My entire kitchen table was moving back and forth because of the amount of pressure I had to use. When I finally got the fondant rolled out to a decent thickness and peeled off the top layer of fondant, the fondant stuck to the mat! I had to scrape it off and start again. I thought that maybe I had the sides reversed, so I flipped the mat over to try it the other way. The same thing happened again- hard to roll out and the fondant stuck to the mat. I ended up going back to my Wilton roll and cut mat and I had no issues whatsoever rolling out the fondant. It was easier to roll, it did not stick to the roller or the mat, and it took half of the time. I am thankful for Amazon's no hassle return policy, as I will be returning this as soon as possible.
