I have to start off with saying that if you have to do this job outside, you better hope for a very calm day with NO wind at all. But hey, there's a better way and you won't find this in the instructions but it works great. Open the container, pour it into a bucket. Add an equal amount of water and wash all of it into your top with a terry cloth. you should be able to apply at least 2 if not 3 coats. Allow to dry or nearly dry between coats. I worked it in in less than an hour total. This way it isn't blowing everywhere, you only get it on the top and not on windows or mirrors, etc, so all of the product goes on the top. As well, you get an even layer each time, so no hot spots or missed spots. it's all even. After the final coat let it dry. Now the good stuff. Does it work. You bet. I do this once a year and it lasts all year. In fact it may go longer but I do it every Spring anyway. The protection is really what you would expect from 3M. In case you didn't know, this was the product recommended for Verts from day one, it hasn't changed. The other guys, new stuff, forget the name, they paid to get the nod, their stuff is good too, but costs more and for what? In my book, the old school 3M Protector Kit is still the undefeated heavyweight. Try it. you'll like it. It does not leave any sticky residue, no crispy shiny wax looking effect. You cant tell the stuff is there until it rains, then you know, you're precious top is protected. I have an 03 vette, Black Vert. the color is still like new so a bonus for the UV Protection as well, yes I take to Maxie's here in Ga and set it beside a new blactop just to compare. No difference after 6 going on 7 years of using 3M's Kit. 303 works for me. hope you like it too. See Ya.

Used this pair to clean & waterproof/renew convertible top on a '97 BMW.
Once dried, the top shed water as if it hated the stuff!
It was as-if I'd used the equivalent of RainX on the fabric.
Also, somewhat faded color was renewed (!)
NOTE: The bottle of CLEANER is unnecessary.
MFG or 303 Protectant -on bottle- calls for use of any 100% soap, including a solution of Ivory soap you can make for maybe 60 cents.
If not for this would rate 5 Stars

The caution about overspray onto paint and glass has prompted me to try few different approaches to preserving paint and vinyl/rubber trim. This is my latest procedure, and it seems to work reasonably well (2010 BMW 128, tan fabric top). Clean the top first, either washing and using the cleaner if seriously dirty, or brushing the top lightly but thoroughly to remove surface dirt. Lower all windows, and have a very wet microfiber towel handy (this will be used to wipe off any protectant that lands on the windshield and painted surfaces; the back window is wiped with a wet towel, but not so that it causes water to run into the fabric top). Starting on one side, spray the side surface facing you and 1/2 way across the top. NOTE: As you do this, your assistant (in this case my beautiful wife - you'll have to get your own) holds a sheet in the space where the windows were, thus preventing spray from entering the interior and the painted surfaces on the side of the car. Next, do the back, using the sheet to shield the trunk surface (NOW, wipe the rear window glass to remove any spray), and then continue around to the other side and proceed as with the first side. You will use the very wet microfiber towel lavishly to remove any overspray from the windshield and the hood and the painted trunk surface after you have finished spraying the top. NEXT: Start the car and hit the button to lower the top ONLY as far as needed to expose the rubber trim that connects to the windshield and the trim that connects with the windows when they are up. Let go of the button and the top will stay in place. NOW: apply a good quality rubber/vinyl preservative (Wolfgang is EXCELLENT) to the exposed trim to remove/protect against any exposure to the overspray.Read more ›

Recently purchased a used Mini Cooper S and the top was getting saturated every time it rained- no leaks but certainly needed treating. Top was in great shape with only a few wrinkle marks/slight fading so I was anxious to see how it looked after treating. I intended to apply it to the top with a brush as mentioned in other reviews for best coverage and no overspray. After brushing about 1/3 of the top I began to be concerned that one bottle would not be enough to cover the entire convertible. Since it was fairly still out, I decided to try spraying since brushing was a very generous application method. I sprayed the remaining solution and was comfortable that it was ample coverage. Then it rained.
The parts I brushed the liquid on were beading like crazy! The parts sprayed were improved from the original condition but nowhere near the effect of the brushed portions and I sprayed it well. I am very happy with the product but will definitely purchase another bottle to treat the whole roof with the brush on method. It's much more effective than spraying!
My experience is possibly wholly due to the roof fabric being so thirsty BUT at least consider you might need two bottles!
BTW the black fabric darkened up a bit around slightly faded wrinkle marks after treatment too which was great. Top looks new;)
