I put on several preparedness seminars and presentations annually, most of which I do for free. Over the years, I've learned that one of the biggest impediments in getting people engaged in preparedness is helping them overcome that sense of being overwhelmed with the "How do I get started?/What do I do first?" questions they always ask.
In Pivot Points (https://amzn.to/2SJHDPq), I write about the two psychological barriers that must be crossed in order to get someone interested in able to prepare themselves: saliency and self-efficacy. Creekmore's book helps with that second barrier, by:
a) dividing up the various skills/items needed for preparedness into bite sized chunks
b) creating a plan for people to do one thing at a time, in an orderly fashion.
He points out you don't have to do each of these things in a single day - some may take more than a day. He's right.
I recommend this book to readers who:
- are brand new to preparedness and need some sort of plan to get started
- are tasked with helping others get prepared and need ideas on how to help launch them without overwhelming them
- emergency managers who are looking for ways to create simple preparedness lessons for the public

At last a survival manual that is full of specifics. So many other survival manuals are full of generalities, this one gets right down to all the small details. This manual lays out exactly what to do and when to do it. This book helped me assess my own survival skills and what I need to do to improve them. It really took me through the process in a specific series of steps.
It showed me how to lay out my storage space, and provided me with a specific shopping list of inexpensive normal foods that could be applied to my specific situation. This was some really handy information. It also helped me organize my medical kit, and gave me another shopping list for the hardware store. This was all useful to me.
Then the manual provided instruction on building traps to capture small game, and assure clean potable water. It included fire arms safety, and plenty of survival gardening tips. There was also good practical information of fire starting. Good stuff.
There was a complete discussion on how to make “bug out” bags.
All and all this was a good practical survival manual and I recommend it to anybody who is worried about how to face the end of the world as we know it.

I picked this book up based on the concept of getting reasonably prepared in a short about of time, and I'm glad I did. The book delivers on its promise of "31 days" by assigning a specific task every day for a month, and as long as you understand where Creekmore is coming from you won't be disappointed.
I think some reviewers have missed the point. Creekmore isn't trying to give you the end-all-be-all of survival/disaster preparedness, nor is he at all dogmatic in his recommendations or advice; he's trying to get you moving in the right direction quickly. Disaster preparedness can be a little intimidating if you're new to it, and even for those more experienced its very easy to get sidetracked and have major gaps in your supplies, planning, and skills because you become too absorbed and focused on a given area or particular plan. This book helps solve these problems by giving a goal and direction. For example, I certainly didn't follow every single detail in the book; I modified as needed to address my particular needs, but looking at the calendar and feeling like you're actually making significant progress toward being more prepared every day really helped give me direction and focus.
Like I said, this isn't the end-all-be-all of prepping by any means...BUT, if you follow Creekmore's advice and stick with the timeframe and general plan he sets out, in a month you'll be far ahead of most people, even those within the preparedness minded community.
Bottom line: After following the general theme of the book, I'm more prepared now than I was before I read it.

This book has a lot of good information that I found to be helpful. However, the title "31 Days to Survival" is VERY misleading. There is NO WAY that an average person is going to be able to do the things outlined in this book in 31 days. I hate that title! Even if you had no job and/or kids, plus unlimited amounts of money, it would be a huge struggle to do these things. Here's an example: Day 4: "Make a list of what and how much your family eats in a week". Wouldn't that take a week? Another chapter was really frustrating: Day 13: "Let's take a trip to the hardware store." This chapter is basically just a list of 45+ items that you are supposed to go out and buy. I don't even know what some of the items are and there is no description as to what they are for and what you would do with them in an emergency. I don't know how many HUNDREDS of dollars these items would cost. Most people would not be buying them all in one day.
Some areas that I found to be particularly helpful were: the chapter that addresses how to involve your spouse in the planning process, the chapter that addresses common prepping mistakes, and the chapter that describes how to cook in a thermos bottle. Finally, I really appreciated the final chapter of the book which addresses planning and goal setting. That is something that I needed to address for myself.
Overall, this book was helpful. However, at only 153 pages, it is too short and it is lacking some information and detail.

Excellent addition to a survival library. Been awhile since I read a book in this genre and actually took notes and used a highlighter. Lots of links to references (books and web sites), lots of writing that really makes you think, and lots of how to information. Overall excellent read and great value.
