So far so good - Works like it should (2 years later - still works)

I got this SD to PCMCIA adapter for my Dell Latitude D620 laptop. Obviously the purpose is to utilize the vacant (and in these days, fairly useless PCMCIA) slot to give me SD capability. The card slides in perfectly in my Dell, and locks in. The laptop recognized the card immediately. The slot sits just a little to far into the shelf of the laptop, but still works fine. It takes SD cards and they lock in. Because the card sits a little to far into the laptop shelf, it is just a little hard to get the SD card to lock in (thus the 4 stars instead of 5). If you have stubby fingers or no fingernails, it might be difficult just for this model. I can't speak to how this card sits with any other laptop. All in all, a great use for an outdated PC port.

**Update: 2 years later, still working fine.

Finally a use for that CardBus slot

I wanted to add an SD card reader to an older laptop that has both CardBus and ExpressCard slots. I chose this product because it holds the SD card entirely within the CardBus slot, leaving nothing sticking out of my laptop after I insert the SD card.

Windows 7 automatically detected this card and installed the driver automatically. Performance is very good, reaching the SD card's 20MB/s limit. When I am not using this reader to download photos, I keep an SD card in the slot to take advantage of Windows 7 ReadyBoost.

Fast CardBus SDHC reader

I've had this reader for several months now and am very pleased. It was exactly what I needed.

My SD cards are faster in this reader than in any USB reader I have used. Class 6 cards perform at or above Class 6 speeds and on my class 10 card I can read 20MB/s and write 10MB/s.

The spring loaded eject mechanism was a little stiff when I first got the reader, but it has loosened up with usage. I always leave a card in the slot for use by Windows ReadyBoost and am pleased that I have not had any problems with cards slipping out.

Sometimes the card is not detect when my computer wakes up from sleep or hibernate modes, but is quickly remedied by eject the SD card and put it back in. I'm not sure what cases this. It is equally likely that the culprit is my laptop, the card, the card reader, or even Windows.

Excellent adapter card to salvage a PCMCIA slot

I purchased this card to expand an HP laptop which I upgraded to Win 7. The laptop is a very nice machine for traveling but it lacks hard disk space - only 70 GB. By using this card and an SDHC, I have been able to expand the storage capacity of my HP machine.

The adapter card fits flush in the unused PCMCIA slot of my HP and the SDHC card plugs into it also sitting flush, thus providing a solution without interference.

This adapter proved to be an economical and easy way of salvaging an otherwise useless PCMCIA slot and extending the life of my mini HP laptop.

i bought this one and used it in the almost outdatet pcmcia slot
and it works with the same speeds than all the others for PCexpress
just with the difference i got the PCexpress port free for my USB3.0 card

Most of the PCMCIA cards are not 32 bit and are slow as heck. This is just as speedy and isn't sticking out of a USB port. I like how it completely hides itself flush within the laptop. I thought the price was a little steep and is why i knocked it down 1 star. It has turned an unused PCMCIA port into a useful one.
