Solid Read Errors - Possibly Defective Drive (Drive was defective... replacement is great)

Unfortunately this drive did not work in my IBM ThinkPad T60. Every time I powered up the ThinkPad, I received a read error (2110). I ran the standalone Lenovo diagnostics against it, and they reported seek and read errors. Interestingly, the diagnostics were able to identify the drive's serial number (which matched the external label on the drive). I also tried a standalone Linux system on the ThinkPad, but it was unable to even recognize that the drive was installed. So, I had to reinstall my original 100 MB drive (which continues to function without error). On the off chance that the drive was actually defective, I am returning it and ordering a replacement. If that drive should also fail, then it too will be returned.

For the record, the drive I received was a Seagate drive. Also, I did try changing the BIOS setting to "Compatibility" as suggested by one other poster, but that had no effect; I still received the 2110 read error.

I just received the replacement drive (Seagate again) and installed it in my ThinkPad. Works great ! So, no doubt the first drive was, in fact, defective. I have now restored all four of my partitions to the drive and everything is running fine.

For those of you who monitor the condition of your hard drives (I use Crystal Disk Info), the read and seek error rates look very bad. I have experienced this was other Seagate drives in a server. Turns out that Seagate uses these error fields differently than most (all ?) other vendors. Even though it appeared I was receiving a huge number of errors, that was not the case. ATA Hard Drive for Lenovo Thinkpad T60

Hard drive arrived exceptionally fast, was well-packaged, and easy to install. Couldn't have asked for a better product for the price. One thing I would like to relate to other Lenovo Thinkpad T60 users is that you will probably need to go into BIOS, and adjust your settings when you install a new hard drive. At first, my new hard drive was not detected by the Thinkpad. I went into BIOS, and changed the setting to "Compatibility." After that, everything was as smooth as butter, and the hard drive has 300 GB for a great price!

Hard to install and slow

It took forever to move the image from my old disk to this one. I don't even remember what finally fixed the problem, but it took many searches and days of trying. The problem was in the master boot record - and something about compatible mode, etc... Now that it is working, it is very slow. Many applications use virtual memory and accessing the disk is much slower than the OEM disk. When I switch back from another app to my browser, it takes more than 5 seconds to repaint the screen. Perhaps it is the slower disk speed. I bought it at a lower speed, partly to have a lower temperature system. It is cooler - but I'd rather go back to faster even if meant more heat.

Not worth buying!

The title of this states that it is 320GB. Well it is 280GB when blank. Then after I found that out, a week later, it breaks due to unknown reason. From the start there was a rattle. I give this a rating of 1 star. Because I was ripped off and it only lasted a week.

Great for Upgrading a Laptop
