This cleaning rod is extremely well made. The ball bearings are as smooth as silk. After reading a review or two before ordering this where reviewers said the brass tip fell off, I gave very hard tugs on mine and it seems to be mounted extremely well and it's hard to imagine it falling or breaking off. The joint where the rod meets the tip is extremely precise. One review wasn't clear about whether it slipped off or broke off, taking some of the rod with it but I suspect that it slipped off. I see that the manufacturer replaced the rod and they are satisfied now. However, their review alerted me to a potential problem and I ordered it anyway figuring that, if the brass tip slid off, it could probably simply be put back on permanently with Super-Glue but, as I said, the brass tip on mine seems to be mounted so well that I can't imagine ever slipping of or breaking off. I'm guessing that the person whose tip came off just got a bad one.
At least one reviewer complained that a bore guide wasn't included with this cleaning rod. I know what they mean because some pictures of the product do show one with the rod but it appears that they don't anymore (if they ever did) and Amazon's picture now doesn't show the bore guide. In any case, most people who will buy this rod will already have bore guides and, if they don't, they should get some. They're cheap and you can even get them in plastic. So, for me, that's not an issue but it would have been a minor issue for me if Amazon showed the rod coming with a bore guide when I ordered mine. Just know that you won't get a bore guide with this rod.
Recently, I also purchased one-piece Tipton carbon fiber cleaning rods for my rifles and I absolutely love them. That's why I decided to get a one piece carbon fiber cleaning rod for my handguns. Tipton apparently doesn't make one for handguns yet. So many people seem to have Dewey coated rods but, in my opinion, there is no comparison with those and carbon fiber rods. I have seen Dewey rods with the coating worn off. With a carbon fiber cleaning rod, that can't happen. There is no coating to wear off. As for my old aluminum and brass cleaning rods - well, I may just throw them away or adapt them for other uses. I can't imagine using them again, especially the jointed rods.
This rod is extremely stiff so someone thinking of buying one should have no concern at all about using these with any caliber of handgun.
This is a very high-quality cleaning rod for handguns that resists bending and will not damage the barrel of a handgun.
I received a fairly quick response from the company that was very positive. They indicated they stand behind their work, and according to them this is definitely not typical. They have asked me to ship it to them so they can review the damage and try to understand what happened. My understanding is they will be shipping me a replacement, and once I get it I'll put it through its paces and we'll see how that one holds up, and I'll update again. I'm raising a star because of the nature of their response - but I'm witholding judgement on the rest. One other thing worth noting is that I had to pay shipping to return it to them, which is a ding in my book given the nature of the failure.
I received the replacement Rod in a reasonably timely fashion. It wasn't packed very well, such that the tip was actually sticking out of the box when UPS delivered it. Ironic given the problem I had. That said, it didn't appear to be damaged, and I ran it through some cleaning a couple of times without it breaking. I'm going to assume it was a fluke, and with that in mind, I'm adjusting the rating.
