The gate was subpar at best, but so was the guide table on the overhead saw I rented. The gate can be easily held in place with two mini hand clamps (http://amzn.com/B000051WSG) which worked fine for me.
Overall I am very happy with the purchase
The retail version of the box, was inside a generic Amazon box, so upon delivery there was no indication that there was an issue.
Once unpacked from the main Amazon shipping box, I did noticed that there were some wear and tear on all the edges, but nothing that seemed extravagant.
Once I opened the actual retail box for the saw, I noticed the cracked plastic of the extension arm.
No, I have not gone through the process of making a complaint or try and return it, mainly because it seems like a trivial thing in the long run.
I may try to contact the OEM for a replacement in the future.

My other minor complaint, is the saw blade that comes with the unit.
I understand the desire to keep costs down, but be forewarned, I was only able to get about 15 linear feet before I had to replace the blade. (My replacement blade has easily double that and is still going strong…)
The splash guard technology does help tremendously if you're doing repetitive cuts, but can get in the way during detailed cutting where one needs to see the blade and its path…
Other than that, so far this unit has worked well on the 6 x 6 tiling that I've done so far.
Now the adventure will begin with the 12 x 12 floor tiles that I am about to start.
I am finished with my project. After making several cuts the blade is getting worn. I am happy with the saw.
Generally good construction but the fence is a bit flimsy. It does work but use a speed square to set it up and between each cut to ensure it's true and hasn't moved.
The hydrolock system works well keeping water spray to a minimum, although I wouldn't use it near any finished areas. Although the cover is transparent you can't easily see where the blade is cutting.
The only other comment is that if you cut with the tile face down it can cause damage to the finish of the tile - leaves metallic color scratches. Could be that I didn't clean off the chips and residue of previous cuts enough.
