With camping season coming around this year, the both of us finally decided that it was time to invest in a double cot. This cot appeared to be the best cot for the price, so we thought we'd give it a shot. we have not been disappointed in the least!
Typical concerns when looking for cots include the following:
- Is the frame sturdy enough to last through years of use?
- Does the frame make noise when I shift my weight to a different location?
- Is the fabric durable? Is it easy to tear or get holes?
- How large is the cot when it is folded up?
I must say that I'm impressed with the steadiness of this cot's frame. It has a solid construction and nine legs between which your weight will be distributed. I feel this cot can hold much more than what it is rated for.
The frame doesn't make any noise when changing sleeping positions, rolling around, sitting up, etc. It seems that the joints are well manufactured and are firm enough to not allow minor movements that cause squeaking.
The fabric itself is very thick canvas that provides plenty of support for sleeping. It's not saggy, which is good, unless you have a have a hard time sleeping on mattresses that are slightly firm. The only complaint here is that if one person is sleeping on one side, the fabric tends to slip over the middle bar of the cot and pull the other side tight, if that makes sense.
Yes, the middle support bar. When first inspecting this item, I thought this was going to be really uncomfortable and that it was going to impede on me being able to change sleeping positions. When using it, I never noticed it, and it never bothered me.
The only other complaint I have about this is the seams in the fabric. Some of the thread from the seems were cut too long where the seam ends, especially around the Velcro for the fabric flaps that cover the holes where the joints in the cot allow it to be folded in half. They haven't been problematic so far, but I feel like the seams are coming apart a little bit, but they haven't so far.
Setup is easy, the unit altogether isn't terribly heavy, and it's a bit on the bulky side when it's all folded up, but it's a double cot. What can you expect?
I have never slept so well while camping, and my bad joints seemed to have liked the cot as well. This was a worthy investment!
