Before applying, just make sure the surfaces of each are very clean. First clean with something like Dawn dish detergent on a wet sponge and rinse thoroughly. Then, using a paper towel doubled or tripled up into a pad. . . wipe down with at least 91% alcohol going in one entire direction . . Flip the paper towel over and wipe again in the same direction. I also used CRC MAF Sensor cleaner which is a great degreaser but won't harm paint.
Do not use mineral spirits or other petroleum based solvents as they will leave enough oily residue that you can not see or detect.
Then to be sure if you want. . . . get some 3M adhesive promoter and apply before the tape.
