Then a week later, after falling trying to carry a glass of water while walking with crutches (not a good idea btw), I decided to put this to another use as seen in pic. Mounted large plastic cup to one of crutches. Now I can am able to transport drinks while on crutches. It's the little things in life that make a huge difference.
NOTE: This is foam-based tape, and therefore thicker than a sheet of paper. It's actually thicker than a penny. For comparison, I've attached a photo with a penny beside the tape.
In addition, depending on the kind of material one is trying to stick it to, the holding power of this tape may very well be capable of being increased even more (!) by using the 3M 4298 Adhesion Promoter, Sponge Applicator, which also is available in two larger sizes, the 3M + (4 pack) ADHESION PROMOTER - Part # 6396 Attachment Tape Liquid Primer, and the Automotive Adhesion Promoter, Sponge Applicator Packet 06396 2.5 cc/packet.
If you look at Amazon's photo of the Adhesion Promoter's package, it has an image of a thermometer displaying a temperature range of 60-80 degrees fahrenheit, which I assume is the temperature range in which the Adhesion Promoter is designed to work best. But I had to search the web to find the Technical Data Sheet in order to discover the "Application Procedure," which I would have thought should have come in the package along with the product.
For suitable materials the Adhesion Promoter works best if one follows the instructions in the "Application Procedure," which can easily be found by searching the web for the 4298 Technical Data Sheet. While it may not come packaged with the product, it clearly has some very important information:
"3M Adhesion Promoter 4298 is supplied in an easy-to-use sponge applicator packet. The liquid contents of the packet should be completely used as soon as possible after opening. Hold packet upright and avoid squeezing an opened packet to prevent spillage of liquid contents. The packet can be opened by tearing across the top of the packet at the notches. This will expose the sponge applicator. Do not remove the sponge or squeeze a freshly opened packet. Handling the bottom section of the packet should enable application of 3M adhesion promoter 4298 with no mess.
Apply a thin, uniform coating to the bonding surface, using the minimum amount that will fully coat the surface. A wet coating thickness of 0.002 inch or less is recommended. Apply promoter only to areas that will be fully covered with tape. Although drying times may vary due to temperature and/or humidity, a drying time of 30-90 seconds is typically indicative of this thickness. The primer should be dry before applying tape. For best results, apply tape immediately after primer application or no more than one hour after primer application. Be sure the primed surface remains free from contaminants prior to tape application."
For use with lightweight objects, such as a remote control receiver or small external hard drive, a very small piece of tape should do the job. For objects that are a bit heavier, such as a USB hub with wires dangling, a longer strip should suffice.
Be careful when mounting heavier objects, and be careful when mounting onto a wall. Recently, I have mounted a few large pictures to the wall. I figured that the mounting tape would hold the pictures better than hooks would, because hooks can allow the picture to swing. I was correct. However, when I tried to remove the pictures, I ended up causing great damage to the surface of the wall; a few layers of paint were ripped off. When using this tape, keep in mind that it can be very powerful. If you do need to mount something to the wall, use the least amount of tape you can possibly use.
This tape can be used for a variety of purposes: mounting electronics and accessories to a table or wall, carefully mounting things to walls, holding objects in place on a table, and the like. The tape is something that can be useful in many situations.
Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone who needs powerful mounting tape.
