Facing the chore of painting french doors I tried this tape to lesson my prep time. Unfortunately, 2 roles later only half of the panes were corner masked. (10 light doors = 40 panes X 4 corners =160 tape corners needed to paint.) Also found the perforations between tape sections leaves paint dots. Tape pieces are too big. Since you still need to tape between each corner, might as well make them half the size and get more corners from a roll. On the good side, when no perforations painted, tape did not bleed paint and came off clean.

Until we have decided (and/or can afford) the hardware for the kitchen cabinets we are using ScotchBlue Painter's Tape on all of our cabinets. It is too difficult to open the cabinets without the hardware especially with arthritic hands. My solution, I took a piece of tape 21/2 " in length and folded it back on itself to reinforce it and placed it 1 inch from the top on the outside of each drawer and secured it. It creates a little flap that can be grabbed to pull the drawer open. I then follow the curve of the wood and secure it 2" on the inside of each drawer. I did the same thing for all of the cabinets and drawers thru out the house. This tape is so durable and leaves no trace or mark when removed. Still holding strong even after 6 months!

We've learned to purchase a good amount of painters tape when we paint/re-paint a room from time to time. 3M is always a good brand, and this tape is a nice basic painters tape that gives good value.

I would have to caution that this tape does not give extremely sharp lines, there is minimal bleed through and some non sharp lines upon removal. This is not an issue for most general paint jobs, but if you're going for some type of graphic design on walls by using painters tape, you will be better off looking for the more specialized tape that are designed more specifically for that application

For those planning to paint, this is not magic tape. It doesn't make all your troubles go away, but it is a useful tool... if you use it carefully.

First warning- ignore the part in the instructions that say you can leave it on up to 14 days. I left it up for 2-3 days, and it peeled chunks of my new paint off the wall. In fairness, the paint I used was very thick (Behr Premium Plus Ultra), but it still didn't work leaving it on until after the paint dried.

Here are some tips to use it successfully:

1. Use the tape as recommended, but peel it off as soon as you finish painting. Don't wait for it to dry. This method worked flawlessly for me.

2. If you try removing the tape after the paint has already dried, pull it at a right angle. For example, if you taped along the wall to the ceiling, pull it out along the edge of the ceiling to reduce damage to the paint.

3. If removing the tape still damages your paint, use a wide putty knife or drywall knife (any wide, reasonably sharp blade), and hold the putty knife against the paint right below the border of the tape. That let me remove the tape without peeling off the paint.

Even if everything goes well, expect to do a little touching up afterwards. Blue tape definitely helps, but don't leave it up too long.

My house windows have very narrow sills, so I have to use masking tape to secure my Christmas lights to the sill. But by the time I'm ready to take the lights down, the tape has slightly degraded and it's difficult to remove without leaving a sticky residue. Enter ScotchBlue Painter's Tape. It seems to always remain pliable and the adhesive they use allows for easy removal; and no residue is left behind. I also plan to use it, instead of masking tape, when I start my next house painting project.

Blue painters tape. What can be said? There is just no worthy substitute. Whoever invented the regular beige masking tape just didn't know what 'masking' truly is. If you want a fine painting project fraught with failure, horrible results, depression and incontinence, you can use something else. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to get a divorce and type II diabetes cause I used the wrong tape for my painting project. The choice is yours.

It's a good tape, sticks easy to your application and removes without residue, and - also very important - without tearing apart after the paint dried. It is strong enough to hold up painters poly film for protecting windows, furniture etc. Good stuff.

Unfortunately, the other reviewers are correct. I used this tape to mask several pieces of red oak finished with three coats of oil-modified polyurethane. It lifted all three layers completely off, undoing hours of labor and ruining the project. I now have to start over. This is an incredible misstep by 3M.
