Tips for Optimal Use
For maximum effectiveness, we recommend using the compound with a 3M Perfect-It Compounding Pad (3M Perfect It Foam Compounding Pad Quick Connect, PN 05706, PN 33284 or 3M Wool Compounding Pad PN 05753, PN 33279, PN33287, PN 33288). 3M Perfect-It Compounding Pads are 3M's highest performing compounding pads, which are double-sided. The convolute faces of the foam compounding pads absorb compound and help spread it evenly over panels, while providing great handling.

Like others have mentioned this stuff can be used on other tasks as well. Works real well on plastic headlight restoration as well.
It might seem expensive but I went over a 93 T-Bird twice and still only used 16 oz. For what it accomplished I would pay double the price, but don't tell 3M...:)
I realize I forgot to mention one should definitely use the 3M 05723 8" Foam Compounding Pad along with a 8" rotary buffer/sander. The correct pad and rotary speed really are fairly critical for the proper end result.
Either I got a bad batch, or this stuff is CRAP. Rubbed it out by hand, slight scratches still visible, oxidized paint still intact. Pulled out the buffer for round two; no difference at all. Even the Machine Polish was useless. I spent two days trying to figure out what I was doing wrong while I rubbed and buffed the days away. I wasn't looking for flawless, but I was looking for what I'd used before and loved. The result I got with this is the same I could've gotten with McGuire's and for a lot less money!
I just recently tried this product the rub-out the clear coat finish on the hood of my '72 Camaro that I painted two years ago. The surface integrity was smooth and had factory grade orange peel. I color-sanded from P1000 to P2000 grit. In comparison to the standard 3M compound I've used for years, this stuff required a bit more buffer time (using a DeWALT DWP849) to get the shine. For this type of work, I still prefer good ole 3M Super Duty Compound.
