Aluminum oxide abrasive, tough, durable and long-lasting. Use to sand wood, paint, metal, plastic, and drywall. May also be used to sand fiberglass.
From the Manufacturer
3M(TM) sandpaper comes in a variety of minerals and a wide grit range. This very fine-grit aluminum oxide sandpaper is a general purpose abrasive that can be used on painted surfaces, bare wood, and metal. The 9-Inch by 11-Inch sheets can be cut to size to use by hand, on a sanding block, or a power tool sander. Sanding is an integral step in preparing a surface to receive a coating. For the best sanding results, sand with the grain of the wood and work through a sequence of grits, from coarse to very fine.

There are a surprising number of statistics about sandpaper, but at the end of the day here's what ended up mattering for me: I didn't know what coarseness I wanted so the variety helped, I was able to attach it to a power sander just fine, and it worked well sanding by hand.
Baseboards repaired, window sill remodeled. Now if only I could get the paint shop to find the right color of paint to match my existing paint.
It was a revealing lesson . Good sandpaper is indespensible and worth the extra money.
