This stethoscope was highly rated and I'm not entirely sure why. I will say that lung sounds were pretty clear, but heart sounds were pretty distant and muffled and I was unable to hear any murmurs or mechanical valve clicks, which should have been obvious.
I have used the Littmann Master Classic and found that to be a much better stethoscope over this one for detecting bruits and all types of heart sounds.
If you are mostly concerned with a respiratory assessment, you should find this more than adequate. This might also serve you well as an ENT. But it's not the best at noise isolation and picks up the slightest bit of noise from clothing touching the bell. I suppose this requires quite the learning curve, but for a price difference of about $40, it might be a better idea to go with the Master Classic. Or if you can afford it, buy a Cardiology III or IV.
It was reasonably priced and simple to use (just one diaphragm, so no messing around with the bell or spinning around the chest piece, you can just press with different amounts of pressure to emphasize different frequencies). I didn't want to get a really expensive one in case I lost or broke it in the field.
7 years later this has been my scope through a couple more years as an EMT and all through medical school, where it was not only excellent for auscultation, but also it saves you time because you can hear well by just altering the pressure rather than spinning around the chest piece and checking to make sure the orientation is correct all the time. Cardiologists would probably want something more intense, but I could pretty clearly pick up murmurs that my attendings graded as I or II, and it was perfectly fine for checking blood pressures and listening to more straightforward sounds like bruits and abdominal sounds.
I highly recommend this scope for anyone interested in a no nonsense, high-quality, very practical instrument.
