3M Primer 94 can be used in a wide variety of applications. It was developed to be used in conjunction with 3M VHB tapes to increase the bonding strength of the tape. It has become a popular tool to assist in applying automotive vinyl wraps. Will increase the bond between vinyl wraps and nearly anything where a strong, durable bond is required. Thinking of not using a primer for installing that adhesive material? It's relatively expensive, you don't need a lot, the manufacturer says it's optional, one more thing to do...multiple excuses. And the edges may not peel up and you'll feel good about that decision. But if they do, it's too late. I put SeaDek on a boat in Hawaii without it because it was near impossible to get out there (shipping restrictions) and went through a lot of superglue putting the edges back down. Installed the same material on a boat in FL with the primer, absolutely no issues. I'm a believer.

I used this product as an adhesion promoter to install colored vinyl SHELBY lettering on the front splitter of my Shelby GT350. Using this product was a key step in the surface prep for the install, and I found the product to be easy to use and apply. The letters have only been on for about 2 weeks but so far so good. Only complaint is that I wish a smaller container was available as I literally needed about 1 mL of this stuff, and now I have a whole can of it. Hope it lasts after opening! Overall though, the quality you'd expect from 3M.

Before I used it, I did an experiment with some scrap pieces; one with the primer and one without. There was a H U G E difference in removing the vinyl. I'd give it five stars if it wasn't so darn expensive.

A Little Does a Lot

This stuff makes even cheap vinyl stick with a ton of grip. A little goes a long way. Does not require multiple coats even on my quad plastic which is old and sun damaged. It is an especially good product near the edges as it keeps the edges in place and keeps the entire piece positioned. I used a small 1/4" wide paint brush after wasting much of the product by applying it too thickly. It seems to me that a little works as well as a lot. I also did a lot of vinyl over vinyl and found that this ensures the edges stay put where they are not wrapped and tucked under.

I used this on tool drawers to keep the ends from curling up. I will update after a few weeks but for now it looks like a must have. Putting this on with a simple acid brush was about as simple as you could hope for. Paint it on and let it dry for a few seconds. Job done. Lay the vinyl.
