3M's SCOTCHBLUE painter's tape allowed paint to bleed onto my NEW granite countertops, dark woodwork and wall ceramic tile. It tore the new paint off the wall upon removal, which was very difficult because the tape tore REPEATEDLY. I was next to tears. Looks like 3M has outsourced their previous quality to China. 3M never again.

I bought this instead of Frog Tape because of the "multi-surface" on the packaging. The fine print however, says it's not for wallpaper, wood floors, or unpainted wallboard. Nor lacquered surfaces (which I do not have). That left painted surfaces, but I had problems. Especially with the primer, which I suppose because it was thinner, leaked under the tape. What a mess. I definitely will not use again. I had much, much better results with Frog Tape.

I spent $6.72 on this tape believing it was the best tape for my money. Boy was I wrong. This stuff is absolute garbage . It cost me at least 12 hours of free labor, and wasted at least $275 in paint. I paint boats in the off season for a living. When I recently was asked to touch up a clients boat(who I have known for 15 years), I purchased this tape from Home Depot. I touched up a blue stripe on the boat, and returned the next day to remove the tape and was absolutely shocked to see how badly this crap worked. I have been painting million dollar yachts, and boats and have tons of experience at 52 years old. This tape leaked everywhere!! I had to buy 1 gallon of high end two part LP marine paint, at a cost of $375 a gallon, and repaint two separate quadrants, adjacent to this blue stripe for free!! All I can say to the general public is " DONT BUY THIS TAPE "!!!! Don't make the same mistake I did. My recommendation to you if you are requiring a perfect edge while using high end paint , is purchase Frog Tape. This stuff is the real deal. It isn't cheap but when it costs you almost $400 in new paint and Tape(THAT ACTUALLY IS WORTH A DAMN), it is worth every penny. Buyer beware !!! Oh and a little note to the scotch , 3M company " YOUR PRODUCT SUCKS, I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER PRODUCT FROM YOU AS LONG AS I LIVE" !!!! And that is a promise !

DO NOT BUY THIS! I used it to protect my dark stained molding and it leaked underneath EVERYWHERE. I've been painting all day and every time I peeled back a length of this tape it was another horror show underneath. I'm FURIOUS with 3M. Absolutely furious. Spent all day painting and the entire project is ruined, an absolute mess. Everywhere I look it looks like a blindfolded person painted around the trim WITHOUT TAPE AT ALL. And not only does the tape allow the paint to go everywhere you don't want it to, it tears off badly to the point that I need tweezers to get the last shreds of it. What a mess, what an incredible disappointment to work so hard ALL day and then discover that you can't check the project off your to-do list because now you have to go back over EVERY INCH of your baseboard and crown molding with a razor blade to get the paint off. SHAME ON YOU 3M, YOU COMPLETELY RUINED MY PROJECT AND MY DAY.

DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT buy this tape, it's absolute garbage. I cannot say enough BAD things about it. I am going to devote a lot of time to telling people how awful this product is. Next time I'm doing it freehand. What a waste of my time...

Garbage. I've painted for about 20 years now and I have to say this is the worst tape I've used to date. Tape does not stick well to painted trim and paint will leak in many areas. And YES, I ensure the surface is clean and dust free prior to application and YES, I do press it down with my Putty Knife. 3M should recall this product and issue full refunds in my opinion.

I used this in case I got paint on the ceilings, radiators, moldings, but then when I did te paint on the tape it peeled off the paint that I got on the tape and the paint on the wall. It peeling the finish off my moldings so now I have to stain or paint those and it leaked and let paint through. Will never buy again!!!!

I do my own painting, from interior latex to exterior varnish on yachts. I started a project and bought 2 rolls of this blue tape with gold print on it. Part Number 2080.... the adhesion properties are almost non existent.... in digging around my paint box, I found an older, about 3 years old, roll of the #2090.... In using it I was amazed at the difference in adhesion.... aside from raising prices, 3M has done something to lower production costs and increase profits at the expense of product performance. What used to be a marginally useful product now comes off with the wind. Don't waste your Money on 3M's Scotch blue tape.

That was good since it really does take a lot of time to tape edges in preparation for painting. I was able to be steady enough to paint without using the tape. I have found that no matter how much one tries to press down to make sure there is a seal so the paint doesn't get under, it does. That is pretty frustrating.
