Take Lockheed Martin, whose stock plunged nearly $4 billion in a single day. The culprit? 140 characters. A Tweet from Donald Trump sent stock into a tailspin. Company leadership was silent on social media, unwilling or unable to respond.
For leaders, the question is no longer can you afford to be on social media, but can you afford not to. It s no exaggeration to say the future of your company may depend on knowing how, when and why to use your social platforms.
In this pithy primer, Hootsuite CEO Ryan Holmes offers busy leaders a pocket guide to social media. With quotable, bite-size content including case studies, statistics and graphs, the mind behind the world s most widely used social management platform provides practical ideas to get results.
Ideal for leaders looking to expand their connections with customers and employees, avert crisis and fuel growth, The 4 Billion Dollar Tweet offers an accessible introduction to leadership communication through social media.
It can take just a few minutes to get up to speed. But it might just cost you a few billion dollars not to.

Here are three reasons why the 4 Billion Dollar Tweet is a worthwhile read:
1) The guide serves two audiences: marketers and business leaders. There are many books available today that teach marketers how to better utilize social media and why leaders should be active on social networks, but rarely is the why and the how included that assists both audiences. Marketers can use this as a framework to help encourage and counsel company leadership to be active on these channels, while business leaders can use the guide as motivation and a plan of action that provides a multitude of examples.
2) Like all of his writing, Holmes made the guide relatable. I’ve been a fan of his writing for years now as he’s tactfully shown through his own social profiles how to successfully promote the articles you’ve written and what’s happening behind the scenes at his company. His writing is well-thought out, supported by numerous examples and backed by Holmes own experiences as a CEO active on social media support his personal brand and his company’s reputation as well.
3) It’s highly visual and a short, concise read. A surprising and refreshing part of his book is that it’s a visually focused resource, designed with white space and bright colors, ideal for reading on a tablet. The visual nature of the guide is different from your usual business book that tends to come off as stiff and uptight, which is the opposite of what this resource feels like as you read through it. I also sincerely appreciated the brevity as the 4 Billion Dollar Tweet was just as long as it needed to be, no more, no less. It’s easy to consume in one sitting as it’s the type of guide you’ll reference later when trying to convince leadership to create a purposeful plan around their use of social media.
It’s time for every leader to explore how social media can impact their goals as a professional and help take their approach to the next level. I highly recommend Ryan Holmes new book the 4 Billion Dollar Tweet because it concisely shares why and how leadership can use social media to their advantage and avoid the downsides.
For that price though, one would expect a lot more content like use cases even if all as brief. The challenge with this kind of brevity is value for money flies out the window when after reading the book you chance upon a free blog with more depth.
I hope that after the purchase, updates can be made to it at no extra cost.
Otherwise hold on to your dollars for lengthier titles.
Tried it on multiple devices, looks hard to read on all.
In terms of content, I did not get any new insight. Claiming to get you started is a oversell.
Wasted my money, and more importantly my time.
It’s a good eBook...
Basic practical and focused
PowerPoint format friendly for business users
Puts importance of social media into context

A Social Media Profile is not a choice, the type and scale of profile is!

I admire this writer for taking this step that is a good read for starters to this at the end of the road and especially those in the midst of large corporations. I'd like to see health care stop piddling around with the multi versions they have to communicate to each other, that rarely work and frequently break down and take some lessons from the book.
