Risk of tl;dr follows, so the short version: it's not the ultimate in KVMs, but it does well enough to show that many competing products are *far* overpriced. If you don't have extremely particular needs this doesn't address, even if it *does* fail, you can replace it 3 times and still not meet the cost of the competition.

As for the length of the rest, I blame NaNoWriMo!

I bought this after looking at about thirty various models to spare myself the time and energy of fighting with changing system to system across my desk constantly. I expected to end up turning around and returning it to buy a product priced 4-5x as much, either due to a flimsy product or poor functionality. Instead, the device is very quick to respond, built solidly (casing is a hard plastic, button doesn't have the "play" I've seen in other products, and the vga and USB ports on it are all tight enough that I don't worry something's going to fall out while moving things around), and it doesn't try to be 'smarter' than the user, guessing (in some products I've dealt with, incorrectly) which inputs are actually there, and allows each to be selected without hesitation.

I've used it for a couple days now with Windows 7 and a few different distributions of Linux, all of which have given me no trouble at all with it, and on that note, Windows 7 has a 'feature' that detects changes in video outputs and adjusts things automatically, shifting windows, the task bar, all of one's icons, etc to active screens when the one(s) they are on are disconnected. I use 3 monitors on my W7 machine, and am glad to say, once this device is in place, my system doesn't have any trouble in which it 'loses' that third monitor, while products 5-10x as expensive are plagued with the issue.

I have a three desktop setup and it works great. It's good switch overall but I had a small issue with it. It doesn't work with my kind of expensive gamer keyboard. It's fine with regular keyboards but when I plugged in my Logitech G510 it wouldn't power up all the way.

In conclusion, it works just fine and long as your USB keyboard isn't too fancy.

Keyboard and mouse are periodically not recognized after switching (under both Linux and Windows). If my monitor (Dell E170S) is in powersave mode, it doesn't get woken up, requiring a hard reset of the computer. I was suspicious based on the price (too good to be true - or in this case, too low to be good), and I should have heeded my first instinct in that regard.

UPDATE: I replaced it with the following product, which worked perfectly with all the same equipment. IOGEAR 4-Port USB Cable KVM Switch GCS24U (Black)

The product was easy to install. I had more problems positioning the computers within the space I had available. Got it sorted out.

The product ran perfect for about 3 days then died. Nothing. Nada. Kicked the bucket.

Would cost more to return the package than what it was worth.

I ordered a new, different model. Waiting for it to arrive.

It didn't work for me. Maybe it will work for you. Best of luck.

I have this connecting to a windows 7 ultimate box, a linux (ubuntu:natty) box, and my netbook (ubuntu:natty). When I hook my netbook up, it automatically detects the monitor and with the netbook screen it runs as a duel monitor.

When I switch back to windows, I have a 3 second delay for the mouse to respond.

I have a logitech (mk320) 2 in one USB mouse and keyboard. I dont like the small mouse so I use a microsoft wireless5000 mouse. So I have two mice and a keyboard that all work with all computers.

In Ubuntu, when I switch back to one of these computers, the scroll wheel scrolls ultra fast. This is an issue with Ubuntu and not the KVM switch. The solution is to unplug the USB for the mouse from the KVM switch, and plug it back in. Ubuntu is aware of the problem and this is their current fix.

Worked fair. It delivers wavy images to the monitor which are otherwise good when not hooked up to the KVM. I would not buy another one and would not recommend this product.

After about 8 months, the USB part of the switch has totally quit working. When I tried to locate support for this device, it seems none is available. Anyway, If you don't mind replacing it, it's not a terrible value. I would suggest that you buy at least two, so you don't end up waiting on a replacement. The one I ordered also was short one USB/VGA cable set.

It does its job to output up to 4 computers to 1 screen. It provides 3 USB consoles to connect your mouse, keyboard, printer, speaker, etc. to the 4 computers. It is slightly blurry, so don't expect it to be an option for high quality image. Overall, for the price, it really does what it advertises.
