Product Description
Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) has gone 40 years without "doing it." Now his pals are making it their mission to help him score... fast! Can he survive their hilariously bad advice? Will he land in the arms of the way-too-experienced or the way-too-drunk? Or can he find true love where he least expects—from a gorgeous grandmother (Catherine Keener)? With additional footage too bold for theaters, The 40-Year-Old Virgin now packs even more outrageous comedy!

The "Director's Cut" doesn't offer much more than the original cinematic release.
Within the store that Andy works at are a bunch of guys who do what most guys do. Talk crap to one another (in a `friend' way), play poker, go clubbing, lookin for the chickys, and even going to see donkey shows. Well, Andy doesn't really fit in with the rest of the group, but one day the rest of the guys ask Andy to fill in at the poker game because one of the regulars won't be there. During the game the guys start talking about sex and women, and Andy makes the mistake of saying boobs feel like a bag of sand. Thanks to this mistake the guys figure out he's still a virgin. And instead of making his life a living hell, they decide to help him out in the ways they know how.
This movie has made me laugh so many times and in so many spots. Judd Apatow (writer, director, and producer) has the exact same kind of comedy as me. And to me that comedy is just straight stupid and non-caring and perverse and quick witted and spontaneous...and ... and... well... there is just so much more. Thankfully Apatow has made it in the movie business because the networks sure didn't let him succeed on T.V. (Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared). Also I'm happy that Apatow has kept a lot of his actors from his T.V. shows and starred or co-starred them in his movies, Like Seth Rogen for instance. To me, Seth was just not that funny at all in Freaks and Geeks, but now he's one of my favorite actors for a comedy. I've seen The 40-Year Old Virgin around 20 times since it came out in theaters and I still laugh at it in many spots.
The only bad thing I can say about this movie is that it just isn't for everyone. Some people's humor is just so far gone or to snobbish that they'll never like a movie like this. There is a lot of cussing, perverse jokes, and even nudity. And that's ok that it's not for everyone, but for the people that cant stand movies like this... how do you not know what you are getting into before you watch something like this?
In the end, I would say BUY this movie if you love to laugh at some crude humor. Stay away if you don't.
P.S. I would love to be in an Apatow movie.
If you haven't seen this yet, from 13 or 14 up, you should watch the movie. The humor and slap is so infantile, it doesn't even seem dirty....

Regardless, if you don’t leave The 40 Year-Old Virgin with a goofy grin playing across your face, it’s time to stock up on Lithuanian fishing documentary DVDs and book yourself a regular slot on Newsnight Review.
This has many a moment of gross-out comedy par excellence, providing all manner of yuk for your buck. A bizarre speed-dating sequence with nipples making bids for freedom and a sly chat-up in a bookshop (preceded by the finest dating advice in history) will bring tears to the eyes, while a squirming, clearly improv’d waxing session will invite multiple howls. Carell has a natural gift for making the mundane uproarious and remaining loveable throughout (it’s a measure of his charm that his insistence on keeping cherry firmly intact never seems pathetic) that elevates even the basest comedy moments… although two morning-erection jokes is pushing it.

It’s in trying to be more that Apatow sadly stumbles. At the film’s centre is a very sweet story about a man choosing to wait for a woman he loves rather than give it up for one of the nymphomaniacs shoved his way. It’s like an older, yet less mature, version of American Pie. But where that balanced sweet and unsavoury, this loses its central romance amid the bodily fluids and flatulence. Catherine Keener, always watchable, is left screaming for attention as an insistent pack of testosteroney friends continually interrupt her storyline, reducing both her romantic impact and their own hilarity.
