I needed 100% natural rope for an internal support construct for a sculpture. I needed to do a Burn Out and need natural fibers to do that without gases producing cracks when I do the burn out with melted bronze.
Where the washing did remove the yellow stain and most of the smell, it also revealed the core of the rope. As another reviewer had said, it looked like a rolled up dryer sheet. I unraveled some of it and pulled it apart (I'll add my photos if I can). It was definitely not cotton. It stretched when pulled and frayed the way plastic fibers would, not break like natural cotton fibers.
If you're looking for All Natural Cotton rope, this is probably NOT what you want.
Still, I'm happy with the quality of the braided rope itself, even though the diameter was reduced when I removed the core. The cotton is soft and pliable when washed, and has a natural look to it. Though I absolutely dread removing 50 MORE feet of wasted core material, I'm buying more!
The product description does mention the outside braiding begin natural cotton and the internal core being regular cotton, but the thin braid of the outside cotton makes this a pointless piece of rope. Returning thanks to Amazon.

Does cotton burn. Yes. And the braided outside is cotton. The core, melts and bubbles when exposed to flame. This is not 100% cotton.Published 1 month ago by bovine0001
I purchased this to make bird toys with and am quite happy with the quality and the size. The color is very pretty and the dye is throughout the entire rope. Read morePublished 1 month ago by richard Leighton
