It functions perfectly as an 8GB usb flash drive on both Windows and Mac computers. The exterior quality is very good. There is far more painted detail on the Series 5 R2-D2 than on it's Series 1 predecessor. The colors are much more vibrant as well. There were two problems on the unit I received. There was a small nick on the cap (R2-D2's head) that was caused by the injection molding processes. Secondly, there was also a drop of black paint on the back of R2-D2's head that clearly shouldn't be there.
What sets Mimobot apart is the digital content that comes with each flash drive. This is where Mimobot has fallen incredibly short. Missing completely from the Series 5 R2-D2 is the SoundByte software for Mac due to compatibility issues with Snow Leopard. Finding this out involves a search online or registering with Mimobot's community forums. A notice contained within the packaging would have been nice. Instead there is just an empty folder where the installer should be. Mimobot expects a SoundByte release for Mac users sometime late this year.
Lastly, I was fairly disappointed that there was no protective ProtoHoodie included.
In summary the Mimobot R2-D2 Series 5 USB Drive (8GB) is a good collectible and a functional flash drive. But for the price, it falls just short of being a great one.
I'd recomend to anyone who needs a little flash drive and is a fan of the Star Wars saga.
