We purchased it at a local retail store because we had store credit and coupons (hint: get 20% coupon for signing up for their mailing list). We got the Blue Plush color and it looks pretty nice.
The only con, although not necessarily a real con, is that when our baby is bundled in a blanket and we place him higher up in the swing, he tends to slink down and wakes himself up because he is uncomfortable. You just have to play with the settings of how far back or how flat the swing part is setting and then he doesn't move as much.
If you have a baby that sleeps well in a moving car or in your bouncing/rocking arms, he will probably like this product.
After a few months of average use (maybe 1-2 hours each day), we are hearing some strange sounds occasionally. Like a clicking of the motor when it's on a car ride cycle. We are considering taking it back and getting a replacement because we like the product.Read more ›
How it works:
1) Do the bedtime routine (nurse, bath, books/songs in that order)
2) Swaddle baby so only his arms are secure (you need those legs out of the swaddle to strap baby in)
3) Put him in the bouncer awake in a dim or dark room
4) Add lovey/something that smells like mom
5) Turn it on to full-speed and full-volume (bounce mode & white noise of your choice)
6) Walk away. Baby is asleep within 10 minutes!
- longer naps
- less night wakings
- a sense of relief & triumph
I was initially going to buy the Fisher Price swing but saw this and decided to splurge - turned out to be the right choice, because:
1) The difference between speeds is noticeable
The difference between speeds on the swing is barely noticeable, but on this one it's pretty clear. This is crucial for when you want to wean baby off of the device (keep lowering the speed until baby can sleep in it with no motion) & transition to the crib.
2) Multiple bounce modes
A swing only has one type of motion whereas this has 5 to choose from. If your baby falls asleep in the car, Car Ride works well. If he likes being bounced on an exercise ball, Kangaroo fits the bill. If he likes being swayed in your arms, Rock-a-bye it is.
3) The white noise is not on a timer
White noise calms baby and keeps him asleep longer. You want that noise on for the whole time baby is asleep.
Much lighter than you would expect, so it's very easy to move from one room to another.
5) Plugs in
No battery waste
Did I mention the design is stylish and sleek too?
Functional + Good-looking = great product :)
UPDATE at 4 months: Our little girl is still loving her Mamaroo and it can get her down for a nap or just keep her quietly happy better than anything else we use. The nature sounds and white noise have gotten a lot of use even when she's not in it. MY mom, who watches her sometimes, is in awe of it and secretly mad she didnt have one when I was little. :)
For 2 weeks we thought our newborn had colic, as she would always cry unless she was eating or sleeping. We had the Fisher Price Starlight papasan swing, which she liked 'just ok.' The swinging motion of the Fisher Price swing caused her to spit up though, and it had only 2 incline options which were variations of flat. At night, getting her to sleep after a feeding or diaper change was an epic challenge lasting easily 30-45 min each time she woke. This equated very little sleep for the new parents (us).
I broke down and bought the silver classic Mamaroo and the plush newborn insert, hoping that it would help her get to/stay asleep and allow her a comfortable place to sit and play in a more upright position.Read more ›
