I thought that being made by RCA it would last. The only problem I had was it died with less than 3 months of use. I had 5 days left of the 90 day limit for returns when it died and I had to return it to WalMart. If this thing had lasted longer I would have given it at least a 4 star rating.
Also this model that is listed does NOT come with a 5-Disc DVD/CD player. Just the receiver/amplifier to hook your DVD or VCR up to.
So why do I bring all that up? Because the RCA Rt2770, at 1/3rd the cost of the Vizio, sounds better, even with it's stock speakers, and the Vizio is supposed to be -the- low-budget home theater system to beat these days.
The RCA Rt2770 comes with 4 satellite speakers, a similar center, and a passive sub. The speakers are all relatively compact so they hide well in most rooms. I was concerned at first glance that these speakers would sound weak, and while they won't blow you away by themselves, when paired with a sub the sound is surprisingly room-filling and warm. While these speakers sound good for their size and price, one major problem I have with them is the fact that the speaker wire is hardwired to them - meaning you are stuck with the wire provided, unless you're willing to open them up and re-solder new wires yourself. the thin 22-guage wire provided is functional enough for speakers of this size, but in my case I had cut the length down at one point, and then needed a longer run again later, so I ended up splicing 16-guage wire to the existing wire. This isn't really that big a deal but it is a hassle. I wish RCA had just provided runs of wire & used industry-standard wire crimps on the speakers. In an effort to idiot-proof the system, they actually hampered it a little bit.Read more ›
I could not get the sound from my TV to go through the RCA unit. The tuner works well because I used a paper clip at the backend and connected the supplied wired to the end of the paper clip (I am being serious). Otherwise some stations will not come in clearly. I'm sure other workarounds can be used.
I found that setting the Subwoofer level at Strong gives the best bass which can be done on the Subwoofer button on the remote. The Level button on the remote will also allow you to increase the volume if it seems to be lacking at the original setting.
I had read the reviews on here so I knew what to expect and I can say that I am satisfied with the unit for the price.
6/22/10 After the first month of owning the RCA system I replaced all the speakers with Sony shelf speakers and a Sony subwoofer and it has made all the difference. It now goes as loud as I need and the sound is crisp and clear. In other words the RCA receiver works quite well, but the RCA speakers need to be replaced with better ones.

Good system for the price, but after a year it starts humming when turned on. May have a bit of dust in it, though.Published 15 months ago by Anna-Marie
This system is good if you want a beginner system. The speakers are low quality and rattle/ sound tinny. I ended up using speakers from a Dennon receiver that died. Read morePublished 17 months ago by Matt L.
