These 5.11 ATAC boots are quite nice. Here's my one and only criticism: The top two shoelace fasteners are hooks, not eyelets. So when you use the side zip, the laces can get loose enough to slip right off of them. That's fine if all you care about is getting OUT of the boots quickly. Some of us, though, also have to get INTO them quickly and the side zip is not particularly useful if you still have to tie your laces.
Other than that, I gotta tell you they're really comfortable. They look great. The side zip is durable and easy to grip. They breathe nicely and I can wear them a long time without my feet getting too hot. I'm a full time firefighter/paramedic and they get daily wear. I've had no problems and at this point, I'd buy them again. Nice boots, especially for the price.
5.11 overall makes a great product with these boots. They're comfortable, they have great mobility and they feel good on the feet. They only cons I can see are that compared to some of the Magnum boots I've had in the past these are a bit on the heavy side however I haven't found it to be a personal problem; just an observation. I've had my 2nd pair now for 2 years and the original shoes laces have started to shred a bit so I'll be thinking about replacing it soon but not having to think about laces for two years isn't a bad thing. The boot shines up nice and looks professional. It's a non-black marking sole, waterproof, bio-proof, oil-proof from what I've assumed based off of daily wear at work and off of work.
Overall, I love this boot. I probably won't ever buy another brand or style again. I can't say enough good things about it.
These are great boots! The lug soles are made of very hard material which gives the impression of long life. Quality construction everywhere. They fit well, are lightweight and comfortable. Sometimes the zipper pushes a bit on my ankle and is mildly annoying, but I can live with that. These are by far the easiest boots to lace up and take off that I have owned. I don't use the zippers because of that. It's extremely easy and fast to lace up with the proper tightness, and I won't have to worry about zipper failure. They are a pleasure to put on and work with. I do a LOT of walking and appreciate a good quality boot that fits well, is comfortable and doesn't tear up my feet. I have owned Bates ($125) and Danner ($190 - desert boots, very good) before I decided to buy these, and I'm very glad I did. These boots are better, more affordable (I don't want to say "cheaper" because they are very good quality) and just a pleasure to wear. I've been wearing them for about a month now with no problems. I actually look forward to putting them on, and sometimes wear them when I'm not working.
On my line of work, I am mostly on my feet 90% of the time. As a first responder, I need to be using a very comfortable and light-weight pair of boots in order to function properly on the job. Responding to emergency calls and working on my feet all day, a first responder doesn’t have be worrying about back pain or their feet hurting all day. Unfortunately, the first day I tried my 5.11 boots, they look great but there was a slight discomfort, I figured it was just because they were new boots and maybe need it to be broken into. That was not the case. Another problem I discovered later on the day, the zipper area from the inside, the stitching had a sort of lifted bulge and because of it, it was rubbing toward my ankle. When I took of my boots in the end of my shift, I discovered red markings on both of my ankles and which it hurt due to the zipper design. I noticed there was no cushion insert to eliminate shock. In addition, there were no heel stabilizer and shock eliminator (which are heel cushion) plus no padded cushion for the zipper design. Not having those features can result problems to leg &back pain and also problems on your feet. The boots are not really made for someone who will be responding to emergency calls and standing up all day. I was looking for a type of boot that had a sneaker feel to it.Read more ›

I've worn these boots before and they have lasted me over 2 years. I get a new pair and they last 5 months and the soles are ripping off!? Not impressed and not happy.Published 2 days ago by manger33
This is the second pair of these that we've purchased for my husband. And this is the second pair that has worn out at the zipper far sooner than the boot would wear out. Read morePublished 3 days ago by EskieNurse
The tongue fold rubs right on my ankle bone; I can't believe that 5.11 would sell such a poorly designed shoe. I'm hoping as they break-in, the fold will be softer... Read morePublished 13 days ago by DK
This is my second pair. My first pair I've used for about 3 years, almost every day. They hold up really well, and feel great out of the box but better once they break in. Read morePublished 13 days ago by D Smith
