I was looking for a sleeping aid I could use after quitting Ambien. I tried many over the counter drug store pills and nothing worked. The "natural" ones didn't keep me asleep and the others just gave me a slight hangover that was hard to shake the next day. I did some research on this and read the reviews before buying it. Mostly everyone liked it, and I agree. The product shipped in relatively good time and to my surprise works well! You get over 200 dosages and only need to take 1. I recommend taking it at least an hour before you plan to lay down to sleep. I take it while i'm winding down and can feel it kicking in slightly after about 20 minutes. The best part is I don't act goofy and forget things like perscription Ambien made me do; AND I don't have a hangover the next day. Some sleeping aids give you some vivid, weird dreams- that's normal. I haven't had that problem with these. I feel well rested and would recommend these to anyone.
I got this partly because I didn't want to rely too much on ambien and also didn't want to keep getting prescription for it. I don't know why my doctor hadn't mentioned melatonin, but this was as effective as taking ambien for me and as far as I read melatonin is safe to intake even for extended period.
On the one hand, it is useful in "recalibrating" my sleep cycle. When exams or projects were coming up, would often pull all-nighters, or 3-nap-days, effectively throwing off my sleep cycle. This would help me get back to night-sleep, day-awake cycles within a day or 2.
However, it would give me REALLY vivid dreams. Like jump out of bed and scream dreams. That ended up being a weird time in my life. Also, I would need 9-10 hours of sleep, though that might just be me sleeping off the all-nighters.
This product certainly delivers! It works exactly as described! I finally get a great night's sleep, and the anxiety of wondering if I'll struggle with another sleepless night is gone. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because it is very potent! Instead of taking one pill every night, I have had to cut the pills into fourths and take one fourth about every other night. The full dose leaves me groggy in the morning like I could sleep forever. I will probably go with a 3 mg pill next time, but I do like the time-release factor with this pill. Note: The directions on this bottle specifically advise against crushing this pill, but cutting it into smaller pieces works for me.
It did it's job, it didn't knock me out in any way, but it's rather good at relaxing you. Like the others here have said, make sure you've time to recover though, it will leave you a tad 'off' in the morning.
My son started having problems sleeping when he was 14 years old. Our doctor recommended using Melatonin because it is a natural product. Your body produces it naturally, the risk of OD is an insignificant percentage and it is not addictive. We tried a dozen different products over the next 5 months. Not one of them worked for him. THEN, we tried Sleep Right. The same night he took it, he slept all night. When he woke up in the morning, he was alert . A few of the other products had lingering effects, so he was groggy in the monrning.
My initial thoughts were maybe all the melatonin he took over the prior months finally built up enough in his system for him to sleep fitfully. I hate to waste things, so when we ran out of Sleep Right I started giving him a different brand. After 2 nights of the other brand, he stopped falling asleep and staying asleep. Anyone who has a teenager KNOWS what they are like when they are tired. I purchased another bottle of Sleep Right. He started falling asleep and staying asleep at night immediately after starting to take it again.
I will never use another brand! In fact, I started taking Sleep Right because I am having problems sleeping due to a stressful job combined with wretched menopause symptoms. Thank you Sleep Right for letting my family get a great night sleep
I'm a pharmacist and a member of the Natural Products Association and can say personally that I prefer to use and recommend melatonin to other prescription and non-prescription sleep aids. I use this product personally.
The Sleep Right brand is one I can recommend without reservation. If you/others have difficulty getting to sleep and/or falling back asleep if you wake in the night, melatonin is the product that I always recommend prior to diphenhydramine (Benadryl/other OTCs) and/or prescriptions such as Ambien. While it may not work for all individuals, no medication/natural product does -- but when it comes to a safe 'trial' of a product, melatonin is my number one choice.
You may need to determine the dose that works for you; my recommendation is to start with 1 5mg tablet (as the packaging indicates) 30-minutes or so prior to the time you want to fall asleep along with other good sleep habits. A short trial at that dose should occur prior to any dosing adjustments. And the obligatory disclaimer…check with YOUR pharmacist/physician prior to using to ensure there aren't other considerations prior to beginning this therapy unique to your health conditions.
This is the highest quality extended release melatonin I have encountered. It contains the least fillers and addatives of any extended release melatonin I have looked at, which is something I really like about it. This compares in effectiveness with any swallowable melatonin. I have a high need for melatonin so I combine this with a sublingual melatonin. The sublingual helps for a few hours and then I rely on the extended release.
