From the Author
The idea for this book came from a YouTube video featuring a sorority sister berating her fellow sisters that went viral. (My sister, who is a therapist, shared it with me.) What intrigued me was how this woman's worst possible moment had been captured for the entire world to judge. Once I started to think about how a young woman could grow and change from such a public shaming, the entire plot took shape.
The first draft made Kylie far too mean and unsympathetic, which to me was very funny. It's tricky to balance a main character that starts off so flawed. A second draft mellowed her out and resonated so much with my new publisher that I heard back in record time, which was very exciting.
What I love about writing humorous romance is taking the every day pitfalls that we all encounter on the road to love and romance (and in Family Secrets -- the pitfalls of marriage) and pushing them to a place we all recognize. It's that place where you don't know whether to cry or laugh. If I have a sweet spot as a writer -- that's it.
