About the Author
Terri Spahr Nelson is a national consultant, educator, social worker and US military veteran. She is the author of several works including the groundbreaking book “For Love of Country: Confronting Rape and Sexual Harassment in the U.S. Military” (2002, second edition 2015); numerous publications on trauma and recovery; and Editor of the Reflections from Women books “The Moment I Knew” and “When One Door Closes.” She has also appeared as a subject matter expert on military sexual trauma in national and international media including: CNN, NPR, 60 Minutes, BBC, Al Jazeera, Asia Times, Newsweek, The Village Voice, and others. In 51%: Women and the Future of Politics, Spahr Nelson follows the narrative format of her earlier book on rape in the military offering a platform for women to speak out candidly on the issues that affect their lives. She brings together the diverse perspectives and voices of over 500 women into one forum calling for change. As with her other works, the women’s own words are placed front and center as the focus of 51%: Women and the Future of Politics.

I have given the book four rather than five stars because my own personal preferences with regard to some of the formatting, but I highly recommend it to both women and men looking to improve the political climate in our country and to finally bring to fruition the promise of our democracy.
