I love how it is divided into easily readable chapters that can be read in any order. It's kind of like being on a quick phone call with your trusted best friend who just lays it out there. You hang up and think "Okay, I can do that!"
It's inspiring and motivating.
I've read a lot of self-help books over the years and have done a lot of work on myself and there's plenty in here for even the most 'enlightened' among us! And it's fun when she swears. :)
Andrea wants you to love yourself and live your best life AND she's going to call you out on your BS when you're not. Be prepared to change...for the better!
And a caveat - I'm not normally a 'kick-ass' or 'bad-ass' or 'boot-camp' kind of person...it exhausts me just thinking about it. But "Living the Life You Deserve"?? I'm down with that. And this book delivers.
Sadly, I've never had a clear vision as to who I am until I actually participated in the exercises she gives in the book. One of the chapters, "Uncover your Personal Values," has you list out the values that are important to you. It sounds simple enough, but as you actually start to list items, it becomes harder because you don't have anyone whispering in your ear to navigate these items that make you happy.
Another exercise I particularly liked was in the chapter, "Take Inventory of your Non-Negotiables." These are the things in your life that when missing, means you have a really bad day. I think this list was a little easier to make for me because of my OCD tendencies. (Everything sets me off if they don't go according to my plan. Lol.) All joking aside, in her book, Ms. Owens states that 3 of these nonnegotiables need to be present in your life on a regular basis or things start to get off balance. (Talk about an eye-opener.)
The hardest chapters to read in this book were the ones dealing with perfectionism, letting go of the past, and living your passions. I mentioned that I'm OCD, right? While I've broken myself of many of my tendencies, I still have a plan as to how things/others need to be, and when they don't, I tend to freak out. I guess I need to take Elsa's advice and "let it go." However, living your passions is extremely difficult for me.Read more ›
Other topics are more serious but still as important. Chapter 20, You can't "Feel Fat" or Chapter 33, Move out of victimhood. I know I battle with those among other health and body issues. What about you?
I think my favorite topic is Chapter 34, You are always worthy of love. We are all there, every day and every moment. I hope you have a lovely day.
I received my copy of this book for free through the NetGalley Professional Reader program. My review is my own opinion as always.
